Geraldo Washington Regufe Alves (born November 8, 1981 in Póvoa de Varzim) is a Portuguese footballer that currently plays for AEK Athens FC in the Greek Superleague. His younger brother Bruno is a former AEK player, and both are centre backs and also International Players.

Club Career

Beginnings in Portugal

Geraldo Alves started his career at Varzim SC playing 11 matches in the Portuguese first division. Gerlado Alves then signed with portuguese giants SL Benfica, Geraldo first started playing with the Benfica B and played 51 games and scoring 1 goal. Shortly after Geraldo was playing for the first team and played 15 matches. Geraldo Alves went on to sign with Beira-Mar the following year. Geraldo was a starting player and was a young talent playing 21 games and scoring one goal. Gerlado Alves then was bought by Gil Vicente, paying 1.Million, Geraldo did not play alot of matches because he was injured and was out for 3 Months. Geraldo Alves then signed for Paços Ferreira and was a legend at the club and one of the best defenders they ever had. Gerlado also scored the famous goal againsy Porto making Paços Ferreira win the matrch 1-0. Geraldo stated he wanted to gow abroad. But stated he will return to Paços Ferreira in his career. Then Geraldo signed for AEK Athens on June 5, 2007, after playing four seasons with F.C. Paços de Ferreira (2003-07).[1]

AEK Athens

In a September 20 UEFA Cup match against Red Bull Salzburg, Alves scored his first AEK goal, in a 3-0 home win (3-1 on aggregate). His brother Bruno convinced Geraldo signing with AEK Athens saying: Its a step up in your career and the support his tramendous. Since Bruno has played for AEK Athens in the past. Geraldo Alves has played 40 times and scored 1 goal. AEK Athens signed Geraldo Alves for 1.3 Million and signing a 3 year contract.

International Career

Geraldo Alves was called to particapate in the 2004 Summer Olympics. Geraldo Alves played 2 macthes in the tournement. Playing against Belgium and Nigeria. Gerlado Alves was a starting player with his younger brother Bruno. Shortly after the tournement, Gerlado Alves was called up for a friendly against Scotland.
