Deleted Articles - Anael Tremblay and Bradfield Wiltse

I am still working on making these articles suitable. Believe me, these are not intended for advertisement so much as they are intended to provide as much information as possible.

Anyway, I have a question about "reliable sources" for notability.

These artists have been making albums since 1995, and have enjoyed some pretty moderate success as measured in the business. I do sort of know the composer, but as a fan and only through email exchange over this past year. The thing is, a lot of their notability material is tied up in trade mags and market listings (for instance, placing #1 one week on Amazon's New Age list, and being in the top ten of iTunes downloads - there is no place to actually verify this online or in any printed material; and being written about in trade mags that have since gone out of print - no way to look at it NOW to verify the source...)

Anyway, I am working to make this entry acceptable. Do you have any knowledge about whether these tear pages I am able to use from the artists themselves (their own collection of their media coverage) qualify as reference material, despite the fact that they are not widely available materials?

Also, does this sort of collection count as a "reliable source"? http://apsismusic.com/2007/index.htm (the press kit)

- or does it disqualify it that it exists on the page of the artist, even though it is a collection of other people's reviews and interviews?

User:Alan Liefting

Hi Nancy. You correctly declined speedy deletion requests by User:Alan Liefting : [1], [2]. These are not the only articles with nonsense speedy deletion requests by this user, e.g. [3], [4]. In [5] he is decorating an article with four tags, the tag "uncategorised" is wrong as the article is already categorized. In [6] he doubt the notability - for a person winnig a gold medal in a world championship. Is this vandalism or just collateral damage? --Ilion2 (talk) 09:13, 3 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not overlook this. --Ilion2 (talk) 16:38, 6 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for the delay Ilion2, things sometimes get lost on this page. I've had a look at Alan's contributions and they are not without a certain amount of problems - of the sort you have indicated here - and this has been raised by multiple editors on his talk page. I would not however go so far as to characterise them as vandalism, rather I think that he is editing in good faith but is somewhat over-enthusiastic and hasty; probably he just needs to slow down a bit. Looking at my deletions, I have probably deleted one of his nominations for every one I have declined - 50% is a pretty poor hit rate and this has been raised with him on his talk. I don't think anything would be served by me pitching in there too at this point however I will be keeping an eye on his edits, and particularly his speedy nominations for the next week or so. Kind regards, Nancy talk 06:44, 7 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Username change

I will no longer be using Wikipedia due to personal circumstances and would like a username change. I would appreciate if you could carry this out so that my talk pages remain, but they no longer carry the username, but maybe digits instead. An email would be appreciated on the results of this request.--Theosony (talk) 18:03, 3 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Once Theatre Company page

Dear Nancy,

Just writing to question your deletion of the Once Theatre Company page. You state in your own information that you want to see good, verifiable sources referring to the importance of the group in question. The article contained just such a source - a review which was published in the Richmond and Twickenham Times newspaper and several other newspapers in the West London area. It also contained a link to the full article on the newspaper's web site. The review clearly indicated that the company and its work were significant. Just wondering why this was not deemed sufficient?

Yours Peter Langdon Plangdon1 (talk) 13:31, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there Peter. I'm not sure whether you are familiar with our notability guidelines for organisations - they can be found at WP:ORG. I recommend you read the whole page for yourself but in a nutshell an organisation is considered notable if it has been the subject of significant coverage in reliable, independent secondary sources. I've done my own research and I can't find any thing which would indicate that this was the case - a local paper reviewing a local play is not quite what we are looking for here; indeed reviews, like listings, are generally considered trivial coverage and especially when the subject of the review is the production not the company. Rather we a looking for something like articles in the Sunday Times and The Guardian on the cultural impact that Once has had. I also notice that you have the same name as someone mentioned in the article as a co-founder and I am presuming that you are one and the same. Whilst creating articles on topics that you are closely associated with is not outright banned it is strongly discouraged as we recognise that this may make it very difficult for you, as the author, to be neutral and present an objective view. A good rule of thumb is that if a topic is truely notable then it is almost certain that an uninvolved editor will be along soon enough and create an article about it. Hope this helps to explain, kind regards Nancy talk 13:54, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Flint Rogues

I see that you are going to keep deleting my article about the Flint Rogues RFC. I will be sending you plenty of other wikipedia about rugby articles of clubs that are posted in wikipedia. This is absolutely unreasonable my club's page gets taken down but other clubs who have made lesser contributions to the sport are allowed to stay on wikipedia. If you take ours down then logic should dictate that you will have to take the others down as well. Most of their citations are the same as the ones used by the Flint Rogues, in fact most do not have anything at all. Some even refer to their club websites as references. If that's the case, I can make that happen as well. I guess if a club is not the South Africa Springboks or New Zealand All Blacks, they are unworthy of being posted in wikipedia. I will be sure to send many other pages to you for deletion and if they are not, then it will be obvious that my club's page is being targeted unfairly.

In regards to you comments about neutrality, I have a MA in history and am working on a PhD in the same field. I am pretty sure that qualifies me to have the ability to write neutrally about my club while being affiliated with the club at the same time. Your reasoning for that makes no sense as an author generally produces the best work about a topic they have knowledge of and are passionate about. At no time in the article do I state that the Flint Rogues are the be all and end all of rugby in Michigan and the US but the fact remains that the club is recognized as a leader and champion of the sport in Michigan and the Midwest region. I am sorry that the Midwest Rugby Territory and USA Rugby do not state this on their websites but the fact that the club is well sponsored by a major corporation and is in its 38th year of existence speak for itself in this regard.

Jason, I have already explained on your talk page what the notability criteria are and what you need to do to proceed - i.e. create a qualifying article in your userspace for review (being sure to avoid further copyright violation). I would respectfully suggest that your time be better spent in that endeavour than here on my talk. Not sure what else to say. Nancy talk 15:12, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have no idea of what copy right violations you are talking about. The club logo and uniform are property of the club and are therefore eligible for use. The Budwesier and flag logos used in the article were taken from wikipedia, so I would assume that they were uploaded legally. If the logos are club property and loaded appropriately, there should be no copyright violations. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jasonschilling6 (talkcontribs) 18:53, 7 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The copyvio (which was repeatedly removed from the article) was the "history" section which was copied verbatim from a club programme. Nancy talk 08:40, 8 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of Ariane Kirtley page

Hi Nancy

I am the webmaster for the Amman Imman website. I am trying to get bios of the principals of the org on Wikipedia. I understand that we can put some sort of code in the original page that allows the material on the page to be used in Wikipedia. I am just not sure where and how I use the code on the original page. If you can, please alert me as to how to go about this.

Thanks much!

Morning Dennie,
If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must include on your website a statement which releases all its content under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 and later. (just like there is at the very bottom of each and every page on Wikipedia)
or
Send written confirmation that the text has been released to GFDL which should be forwarded to the email address "permissions-en AT wikimedia DOT org"
You should not post any of the material until one or other of these processes has been done, and you should indicate on the talk page of any article which uses the "copyright" text how it has been released.
Hope this helps, kind regards, Nancy talk 07:05, 7 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Just to fire in one here (apologies to Nancy), please note that if you release your website text under the GFDL you cannot revoke that release. It also means all your text can be used by anyone in any format they like (website, printed media etc) as long as they comply with the GFDL. So think very hard about wether you want to release all your website text to the whole world before doing so. Pedro :  Chat  07:20, 7 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Pedro, good point. It is also worth saying that often people expend a great deal of time and trouble jumping through the copyright release hoops only to find that the text they have released is unencyclopaedic and/or the resultant article does not meet Wikipedia's notability standards and so the text has been released (permanently) to GFDL for no gain - it is often easier and more effective just to write a short article from scratch in your own words.
