Standard of excellence is a collections of music theory and practicing books and software. It ranges from jazz learning to classical learning. It is used by both schools and private instructors to help students practice and learn their instrument.

Books

There is a variety of books from the Standard of Excellence series. The most common ones used are the Band method books 1-3. These books have both classical and jazz components and also have built in practice logs and tests. There is a book for every band instrument.

Software

Each of the books comes with Standard of Excellence's IPAS software. This software can work on either a Macintosh or Windows. The software has every piece from the book it comes with and even has a program where you can play along and it tells you whether you have hit the note or not. There is some controversy with this product because the playing recognition system often never works telling the student they have played way off pitch even though they're playing is correctly, sometimes misguiding students.
