Papa Roach

Papa Roach is a hard rock band from Vacaville, California.[1] They have released six studio albums in total: Old Friends from Young Years (1997), Infest (2000) Lovehatetragedy (2002), Getting Away with Murder (2004), The Paramour Sessions (2006), and Metamorphosis (2009).

Band history

Formation

The formation of Papa Roach began in January 1993, when Jacoby Shaddix (lead vocals) and Dave Buckner (drums) met on the Vacaville High School football field during a match, where they ended up talking about music. They were later joined by Ben Luther (lead guitar) and Will James (bass guitar). Soon after, Ben Luther was replaced by Jerry Horton (lead guitar). The band's name comes from Jacoby's step-grandfather, Howard William Roatch, who was nicknamed Papa Roach.

In 1994, Papa Roach released their first EP, titled Potatoes for Christmas. Dave Buckner was temporarily replaced by Ryan Brown for this, as Dave was spending the year in Seattle studying art. In 1995, they released their second EP, titled Caca Bonita. Soon after, Will James replaced by Tobin Esperance (bass guitar).

On January 28, 2008 Jacoby Shaddix announced that Dave Buckner would be parting ways with Papa Roach and be replaced with Tony Palermo.

Papa Roach have also been confirmed to play at the 2009 Download Festival, on June 14.

Musical style

In their first two albums, Old Friends From Young Years (1997) and Infest (2000), Papa Roach used nu metal. Since Lovehatetragedy (2002), their music has morphed into hard rock and alternative rock. With their newest album, Metamorphosis (2009), the band feels that their music is going through a transformation to stuff that's harder and faster compared to the softer sound of their last few albums.
