The C family was Mazda's first large piston engine design.
PC
The Template:Auto cc PC engine featured a 70 mm bore and 64 mm stroke. It was an 8-valve SOHC design and was designed for rear wheel drive longitudinal applications. The PC produced 45 hp (33.6 kW) and Template:Auto lbft.

TC
The Template:Auto cc TC had a Template:Auto mm bore and Template:Auto mm stroke; a bored and stroked version of the PC. Used in the 1970, 1973, and 1977 Mazda Familia, and the 1979 - 1984 Mazda Bongo's / Ford Econovans as the smaller engine option, the larger being the 1.6L Mazda F/NA engine.

The original Luce/1500 used a Template:Auto cc SOHC I4 with square Template:Auto mm bore and stroke. Later named the D5, it was used in the 1980-1983 Mazda GLC Wagon.

The Template:Auto cc engine was a stroked (to Template:Auto mm) D5. Output was 70 hp (52 kW) at 5000 rpm, with maximum torque of Template:Auto lbftat 3500 rpm with a single Nikki carburetor.

1800
A stroked (to 94 mm) 1.8 L (1797 cc) version of the 1500/D5 was used in the 1966 Luce/1800. Output was 104 hp (78 kW) and Template:Auto lbft.
VC
A later evolution of the Luce/1800 engine was used in the Mazda 929 and 70's Cosmo/121. Designated VC It featured SOHC 8-valve head on an 80x88mm bore and stroke for a total of Template:Auto cc. Engine output was 83 hp (62 kW) and Template:Auto lbft.
