The Best in Town is the title of the second album to be released by the Welsh post-hardcore band The Blackout. The album was released on May 25 in Europe, and to be released on June 23 in the USA.[3] The track listing for the entire album was released by the band via their Myspace blog.[4]

The track "ShutTheFuckUppercut" was first played on BBC Radio 1, where it was announced it would be released as a free download in April. This free download was actually offered for less than a week from March 26, but was released as a digital single from March 30. Both these releases use the censored title "STFUppercut". "Children of the Night" is the album's lead single, out Monday May 18. It was played on Radio 1 for the first time on April 13 2009.

The music video for "Children of the Night" was released on Wednesday, April 15th on MTV's website. The studio recording features vocals from the Year 6 class of Herolgerrig Primary School, Merthyr Tydfil, where the band is from.

The next single has been selected, with a video filmed at the same time as "Children of the Night". On the 21st of May the album was uploaded for streaming at the band's myspace.

It was revealed on vocalist, Sean Smith's myspace blog that a track, later known to be "This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things" features vocals from vocalist of You Me At Six, Josh Franceschi. Also stated in the blog was that the rest of You Me At Six had sang a chorus of the same song.

The artwork and layout for the album is by Adam Fisher.

The album debuted at number 38 in the UK album chart.

References

  • The title for the song "I Love Myself And I Wanna Live" is a play on the title of the Nirvana song "I Hate Myself And I Want To Die". The lyrical content however doesn't mention or speak of Nirvana at all.
  • "I Love Myself And I Wanna Live" was also intended to be released back in 2008, though due to the band's split from the Fierce Panda record label the intent to release the song was scrapped. The song was then re-worked for the album.
  • The band have recorded music videos for the tracks Children Of The Night and Save Our Selves (The Warning) and was recorded so that the video for Save Our Selves was continued from the end of the video for Children Of The Night.
