Giggs

Nathan Thompson, better known by his stage names Giggs or Hollowman, (from Peckham, South London) is a British rapper. In 2003 he was sentenced to two years in prison for gun charges. Soon after being released he began to rap seriously. He is a member of SN1 (Spare No1), alongside his brothers Joe Grind, Spender, Y.G and Gunna D. Other artists within this group include Kyze, Tiny Boost and the late Termz who died in 2008. The group's main producers are Simple, Boomblast, Universe and Pablo. Late 2009 Giggs aka Hollowman was attacked by a local gang (brooklyn) and left for dead on the dangerous roads of old kent road. The rapper left £200 for his family and the other £200 to his wife, Killa Ki. [1].[2] Giggs also has his own clothing band SN1 wear including T-shirts and caps with sayings from his previous notable songs.

Musical style

Giggs is known for having a slow delivery speed and deep voice, similar to rappers from the southern states of America. But has played about with different fast tempos. When asked Giggs describe this as climbing onto the beat. He is also known for his occasional use of unusual references in his lyrics. He also has several trademark adlibs including "uummm" and "oooooh" which are often delivered after an "emotional bar". Along with this, another trademark that is featured on a majority of his songs is a high pitched "jheez". He collaborates with a select few producers for his tracks. Notable aspects of the production on most of his songs are the heavy baselines and slow tempos. Producers who Giggs works with often include Boomblast(Boom Productions), Uni-Vs, Simple, Flupes and Bayoz Muzik. Members of his group SN1 also feature on many of his tracks with only a select few appearances by artists outside of this group. But In the same Family (BLACK GANG) which consists of S.N.1, P.Y.G, S.I , O.P.B etc. Not forgetting S.N.1 as a label is Still Number 1 which is different from Spare No 1 as that is the street Gang .[citation needed]

Rise to fame

Giggs is so far most notably known for his freestyle "Talkin the Hardest", taken from the Ard Bodied mixtape. The freestyle proved to be unbelievably popular, eventually becoming a massive underground smash hit. As a result, Giggs' popularity and fan base grew significantly in the following months. The track remains one of his most well known. The song also garnered a lot of hype for his upcoming debut album, Walk In Da Park.

Giggs' debut album, Walk In Da Park, was released on August 4. The album was received excellently and gained much critical acclaim from trend-setting publications. Demand for the album was so high that it sold out on the first day of release. Walk In Da Park spawned two singles, "UUMMM!" and "You Raised Me". The album gained positive reviews from fans and critics alike with many from the likes of wiley skepta and dot rotten praising his delivery and subject matter throughout the album. Walk In Da Park went on to chart at #134 in the UK album charts, an incredible achievement for an independent album release with no promotional budget; the album has since gone on to sell over 30,000 copies, an unheard of number from such an underground release in the UK especially when you take into consideration that this brings his total sales to over the 140,000 mark including the combined sales of his street mixtapes.[citation needed]

The album helped to further boost Giggs' profile and he has gone on to gain a massive following in the UK as well as starting to make a name for himself across the Atlantic in the US. He has also since collaborated with one of British music's most successful solo male artists of the past decade in Mike Skinner of The Streets . Their joint effort Slow Songs has pushed Giggs into an even wider audience after gaining support at the UK's largest radio station BBC Radio 1 from the likes of Zane Lowe, Annie Mac, Jo Whiley and Nick Grimshaw as well as gaining heavy rotation from long time supporters such as Tim Westwood, Mistajam and Trevor Nelson. Slow Songs is to be released on Giggs' newly founded SN1 Entertainment on August 17.[needs update]

There has also recently[when?] been much speculation as to Giggs' signing to a major recording deal. It is said[by whom?] he was currently in the midst of a major label bidding war to land his signature. And the news is alongside owning his own label he has been signed to XL RECORDINGS.[clarification needed].
