Kattimedu is a small village situated in Tiruvarur District of Tamil Nadu, India. It belongs to Kattimedu & Adirangam Panchayat. Agriculture is the backbone of this village. The village people are dependent on the North East monsoon and the Cauvery river for irrigation. A Post office and the Indian Overseas Bank are situated at the main road. The near by town is Tiruthuraipoondi(5 km). The nearest railway station is situated at Tiruthuraipoondi (5 km). The nearest International airport is situated at Tiruchirapalli also known as Trichy (110 km). The near by Police station is Tiruthuraipoondi (5 km). The port of Nagapattinam is situated 45 km from the village. A Government High school is located at the main road. Nearly 500 students are studying there.

Library

A new Islamic library has been started in kattimedu to facilitate the people who are willing to learn more about the religion; it includes CD, books and magazines. Summer camps are also conducted for the same.

Culture

This village is a very conservative society. People prefer marrying in the same village. Dowry is still high. One different thing about this place is that mostly people are trying to get a job in India only and not to go abroad where as in most of the Muslim societies it is different. well being such a small and a remote village it has produced many engineers and doctors in the early 1950. Now in this generation we have some girls graduating with high percentage and completing their engineering and doctor degree.

Sports

We have a volley ball court in our native and a large number of cricket ground ( rice fields), There are other traditional sports happens in our native namely "'Otha kai first, 'Kitti pill, Balinigi, Pamparam. Vollyball and Cricket are the most popular sports in the village.

Water bodies

We have 15 ponds in our native and a river cutting across kattimedu and adhirangam. Still we have some problem in good drinking waters mostly water is salty here. There is a river(Mulliaru) which cuts across Kattimedu and Adhirangam so we have some shutters to control the flow of water during the irrigation.

Vellankani church which is a famous Christian religious spot is 35 km from here. Nagore Dharga which is a famous Muslim religious spot is 40 km from here. Thiruvarur and Thanjavur are the two famous Hindu religious spot near by.

The main party here is the Communist Party of India.

Climate

This village have 4 types of seasons.

1. Winter - occurring between Jan and March The year's coldest months are December and January, when temperatures average around(20-25) C.

2. Summer or Pre-Monsoon - lasting from March to June. Temperatures average around (32-40) C. The hottest months are April and May.

The best climate here is the winter. We can see the snow sitting on the grass in the morning. If we walk bare foot we can feel the chill also. But for newcomers to this village it is better to avoid traveling during the night.

Economy

Agriculture is the driver of the economy of this village majority depend on the agriculture. But now a days most of the people have preferred to stay away from this occupation. Mostly people are travelling to gulf countries for making their fortunes. Third category are the people like me who are willing to settle down in India only and make a fortune with the growing economy.

Food

Birni Kanju, Chicken Biriyani, Murthapa, Mutton Biriyani, Nombu Kanju are some of the best food cooked here. Vatlapam, Jalar Parata, Parata, Koliyappam, Thomrodu, Inju kothu paniyaram, Seeni Vada are also famous here. We have a pizza corner, bakery and restaurant. The restaurant is famous for its parata and chalna.

Dressing

Mostly Muslim women's wear Dhupatti (Burqa) mostly in white and some in black. Nowadays they have even started using colored burqa. Men's usually wear Dhoties and plain shirts. Other people who are working on the fields for agriculture usually wear out Tamil Nadu traditional dress.

Educational Institutes

We have a matriculation school and a Government school, There are 16 schools situated in Thiruthuraipoondi which is the nearest town for our village and recently we have got a Matriculation school.

Hospitals

The nearest medical facilities are available in Thiruthuraipoondi which houses around 10 mid sized hospitals, we do have some good doctors including surgeons, gynaecologists who are from our village itself but for critical patients we need to run to Thanjavur which is around 60 km from here and it takes around two and half hours of travel.
