David Dallas

David Dallas is a hip-hop artist from New Zealand, formerly known as Con Psy, and one half of the acclaimed duo Frontline.[1]

David Dallas's first solo offering, the Something Now, was released on December 8, 2008, through Dirty Records. The digital-only release reached number there on New Zealand's iTunes overall album chart and number one on its hip-hop album chart, despite it being only an EP with limited promotion.

David Dallas has now released "Indulge Me", the first single from his album Something Awesome. The single features fellow NZ hip-hop artist Devolo. "Indulge Me" entered the New Zealand Top 40 on the 27th April 2009.

His debut solo album, Something Awesome, was released on August 31, 2009. It debuted on the New Zealand Albums Chart at number twenty the following week.

History

David Dallas (credited as Con Psy) received the New Zealand Music Awards Songwriter of the Year award in 2004 for his contribution to Scribe’s Not Many: The Remix! alongside Scribe, P-Money, and Savage[2]. His duo Frontline, received the New Zealand Music Award for Best Hip Hop Album in 2006 for their album Borrowed Time[3].

In an interview on Kiwi FM in February 2008 David Dallas stated that he had never introduced himself to people as Con Psy and felt that it was more appropriate to use a name that he was more comfortable with, thus he now records and performs under his birth name[4]. The name change was first implemented during the recording of the Frontline album Borrowed Time however was not apparent to fans until David Dallas began recording and performing as a solo artist in 2007[4].
