Season chronology

The first season of the television series Dill Mill Gayye commenced airing in India on August 20, 2007. The show aired from Monday to Thurday at 8.30 pm on STAR One. Later it was extended to Fridays. It follows the lives of surgical interns and resident doctors of Sanjeevani. The show starts of with introduction of 5 interns Dr. Armaan Malik, Dr. Riddhima Gupta, Dr. Anjali Gupta, Dr. Atul Joshi and Dr. Sapna Shah. Dr. Shashank continues to play an important role in this sequel of Sanjivani.

The season was produced by Cinevistaas Limited. It was directed by Nissar Parvej.

Cast

Dr. Shashank Gupta - He is the head of Sanjivanii hospital and has spent his entire career as a doctor for this hospital and its patients. He is considered a 'God' in the world of surgery and all interns wait for an opportunity to assist him in the operation theater. Dr Shanshank is an idol not only for interns but also other resident doctors of Sanjivani. Dr Shashank's two daughters Riddhima and Anjali are world to him and all he wants is to see his daughters become competent doctors. Both Riddhima and Anjali come to Sanjivani to do their internship but get no special treatment for being the daughters of the head of the hospital. Character played by Mohnish Behl

Dr. Riddhima Gupta - Riddhima is a 21 year old, warm hearted, kind and good-natured girl. This single most important thing in her life along with being a good human being is her dream to make her father, Shashank Gupta proud off her achievements in the medical arena. She is intelligent and modern in her outlook to life, and yet respects and represents all the core Indian values. Quick to forgive and forget, at the same time she will not take blatant injustice lying down. Riddhima's weak spot is Anjali, as she allows Anjali to always get the better from her, but that again is not a sign of her weakness. She does so simply because her nature is amenable to everything. Yet, there is one person, an intern like her in Sanjeevani, who manages to get a rise out of the generally very easy going Riddhima. How much ever Riddhima tries to ignore Armnaan, she unexplainably cannot. Character Played by Shilpa Anand, Sukirti Khandpal & Jennifer Winget

Dr. Armaan Mallik - 22 year old Armaan represents the new age man; one who is self confident, efficient, cheeky and occasionally even smug.He is extremely good at sports. He is also extremely handsome and gives the impression of being a skirt chaser. He enjoys female company and makes no bones about the fact that he has a weakening knee effect on women. He is used to being the centre of female attention and also knows how to sustain that attention when he does receive it. Armaan comes from an affluent family and has never wanted for anything materialistic ever in his life. But beneath the suave and confident exterior lies a focussed doctor.Character played by Karan Singh Grover

Dr. Anjali Gupta - Anjali at 22, is Shashank's older daughter and is basically one who is used to having her way. Extremly beautiful, she is quiet conscious of her looks and not above using them .She is manipulative and conniving. In addition she is also academically intelligent, making her a god doctor in her own right, though she is never a favourite amongst the patience, owing to her to-the-point attitude. Her ultimate aim is to be the head of the organisation Sanjeevani, as it means that she will have power, respectability. And it will declare her as the fitting heir apparent to Shashank's legacy. She will employ all the methods of saam, daam, dand and bhed to get whatever she sets her eyes on. Anjali's manipulative ways are most obvious in the way she handles her sister Riddhima. Character played by Sunaina Gulla

Dr. Atul Joshi - A lovable character, Atul is the best guy friend a girl can ever have, without ever making him a real boy friend. He is a good natured, easy going boy, who has become a doctor to fulfill the wish of his dead father, who is part of Sanjeevani alumni. His father worshiped Sanjeevani and Shashank Gupta and he has come to the place of his father's worship to pay his tribute to the man who adopted him. He is always treated like one of the girls when girlie talks are being discussed. When he realizes certain people cannot be changed, he takes mater into his own hands and empties trash, puts cups in trash and carries his own porcelain cup so that the use of Styrofoam cups in Sanjeevani can be reduced.He loves nature and hates pollution. Character played by Pankit Thakkar

Dr. Sapna Shah - She is a simple girl from a simple, yet reasonably rich Gujrati household. She is the youngest of three daughters and her father always encouraged her to do what she wanted. Having seen her older sisters married off and straddled with bawling children early in their life, she escaped in the direction of a possible career, with the intention that it would be a legitimate excuse for the family to delay her marriage. Her mother is possessive and she is always trying to make excuses for her mothers over domineering and loving over indulgence. She gets a dabba full of Gujrathi food, large enough to feed all the interns. And she has to very often leave work early, or keep Friday evenings free to meet a potential match. She gets married to patient Amit. Played by Muskaan Mehani

Dr. Muskaan Chadha - She is a typical, Punjabi chatter box who loves to talk and have fun. She comes as a new intern from Sanjeevani Punjab running away from her parents' wishes for her to get married. She is not that intelligent and gets into trouble for asking silly questions to Dr. Keerti.She at first liked Armaan but he hated her. She and Rahul hate each other since they were young, but during their internship, they start to fall for each other and end up in a relationship. Character played by Drushti Dhami

Dr. Rahul Grewal - He is a smart, intelligent-but-cool nerd. He enters Sanjeevani also as a new interns with Muskaan (who he hates). He and Armaan have been enemies since their college days and therefore both try to compete with each other in different fields.At first he liked Ridhima but after getting to know about her and Armaans relationship he fails to make her his. Rahul and Muskaan fight everytime, anywhere not caring whether they are alone or being watched. However, slowly Rahul starts to fall for Muskaan and ends up falling in love with her. Character played by Mayank Anand

Dr. Nikita Malhotra - She is sweet, bubbly, smart and sexy. Nikita aka Niki is a fun-loving and intelligent doctor who enters after one year in Sanjeevani. She and Armaan have been best friends since their college days, but since she's heartbroken, she leaves college without informing Armaan. When they meet again in Sanjeevani, the same atmosphere of their college days are created. However, when Niki finds out that Armaan and Riddhima are together, she steps back and allows them to continue their relationship. She gets extremely irritated with Abhimanyu and then their love roller-coaster starts. Character played by Shweta Gulati

Dr. Abhimanyu Modi - He is the new finance head of Sanjeevani who nobody likes. He is strict, smart, handsome and mean. He starts to fall in love with Riddhima but when realising that Riddhima and Armaan are together, he decides to forget about it. He and Niki do not get along well but as time passes by, he finds true love in her. However, Abhi has a secret who nobody knows and that is - he is married. Upon telling this to Niki, she feels betrayed and upset. He tries to make her understand that he will get his wife to divorce him and then they can get married. But alas, Abhi's wife - Jiah turns up and then, their life roller-coaster goes up and down. Character played by Amit Tandon

Storyline

The first season starts of with introducing the five new interns entering Sanjeevani Hospital Mumbai. Dr. Riddhima Gupta, Dr. Armaan Mallik, Dr. Anjali Gupta, Dr. Atul Joshi and Dr. Sapna Shah. In the first episode itself, we learn that Riddhima and Anjali are both sisters and are the daughters of the Head of Sanjeevani - Dr. Shashank Gupta. Upon entering the hospital, we see that the interns are handled by the strict Dr. Keerti Mehra. Armaan and Riddhima are seen fighting since the first day and they hate each other.

As their careers are about to begin, the fun begins too. Atul with his silly jokes at the wrong time always gets him into trouble with Dr. Keerti aka the 'Gabar'. Sapna is starting to fall for a senior doctor - Dr. Shubhankar Rai. And Armaan and Riddhima's fights go on forever. They can't stand each other for a single minute. Anjali is using all her manipulative ways to get ahead of Riddhima and try to be the best amongst all.

Medical camp was the next step in their internship and here is where Armaan starts to fall for Riddhima. This is the first time he feels something for Riddhima but is unable to recognise it and doesn't want to admit the fact. On the otherhand, Anjali places a bet with Armaan, that he can't woo Riddhima. Armaan accepts this and he uses this bet to flirt around with Riddhima and make her feel something for him. However, when Riddhima comes to know about the bet, she hates Armaan even more and feels that he was just using her. In this sad circumstance, Riddhima also finds out that she is adopted and her real mother is Sister Padma. Anjali doesn't like the idea of Padma and Shashank coming together. After Nani making her understand, they both work to bring Shashank and Padma close. This is when the two new interns enter - Dr. Rahul Grewal and Dr. Muskaan Chadha. Rahul and Armaan know each other since their college days but never liked each other and their rivalries were visible in Sanjeevani. Muskaan is a typical, Punjabi chatter box who knows Rahul too and hates him like anything. Both, Rahul and Muskaan are violent fighters and can start fighting anytime and anywhere. Armaan and Rahul have a bike race where Armaan's accident takes place. This is when Riddhima realises that she too, loves Armaan a lot.

During this time, Sapna finds out that Shubhankar was already married earlier and has a daughter. She leaves hope of finding love in him. This is when patient Amit enters, who loves Sapna more than anything. Armaan tries to make Riddhima accept her love for him and in the end she does. They keep this secret from the other interns. Meanwhile, Sapna gets married to Amit and leaves Sanjeevani in January. At this point, Muskaan is in big trouble as her parents want to marry her off, she makes Armaan her boyfriend and takes him to Punjab to meet her parents. Armaan hides this fact from Riddhima but feels guilty and tries telling her at many occasions but can't. Dr. Keerti sends Riddhima and Rahul to Lonavla Sanjeevani Orphanage. The love square begins between Rahul, Riddhima, Armaan and Muskaan. When Riddhima finds out that Armaan had gone with Muskaan as her boyfriend, she breaks up with Armaan. On the contrary, Atul is trying all his best to tell Anjali he loves her but is unable to. Armaan leaves Sanjeevani for Kasauli. Riddhima regrets her decision to break-up with Armaan. All the interns persuade Rahul to go and get Armaan but Armaan doesn't come back. Riddhima then goes to get him, Armaan returns but a changed one - the old Armaan!

However, Armaan and Riddhima still love each other but they can't get back because of the old pains and trouble. Meanwhile, Rahul and Muskaan are falling for each other but don't know it. With some more fun and drama, a cake fight brakes out in the canteen and Dr. Shashank gets hit and therefore, suspends all the interns. He makes the girls go to Lonavla Sanjeevani Orphanage and the boys are suspended. But the boys couldn't sit like that! They all dressed up as girls and entered the orphanage with Dr. Shubhankar. To take revenge from the girls, they dress up as goons and try to kidnap Riddhima but in the end moment real goons turn up and kidnap her. Armaan goes to save Riddhima from them and brings her back to camp where everyone finds out about the boys. They are sent back to Mumbai when Sister Padma comes and allows them to stay. This same night, Armaan tries to talk to Riddhima about their relationship but is unable to and Riddhima leaves with Padma for Chandigarh. Rahul tries to make Armaan understand that Riddhima also loves him but Armaan refuses to understand. Riddhima leaves a letter for him explaining their relationship. This is when Shilpa Anand is replaced by Sukirti Khandpal.

The new Riddhima enters the hospital and the interns main focus is now on Shashank and Padma. They all want them to be together. They set up occasions and situations where they have to come face to face and finally on Riddhima and Anjali's insistence, Shashank and Padma get married. Their marriage is at a farm house where lots of fun and party is going on. During this fun, Armaan and Riddhima become friends again but both of them still secretly like each other. Armaan gets frustrated with Riddhima's attitude towards him sometimes, she takes care of him like he's her everything and sometimes she ignores him completely. This is when Armaan decides to leave Sanjeevani. Riddhima gets his letter after he's left and follows him to a village. She tries to persuade him and finally accepts her love. He still does not agree and finally she decides to commit suicide but Armaan arrives at the right moment and saves her. They go back to Mumbai happily and plan a date. But with all these interns around, is it possible?

Finally they all go out together with Dr. Keerti and Dr. Shubhankar who like each other. At this point of the story, a new intern enters - Dr. Nikita Malhotra. She is Armaan's best friend from their college days. Everyone tries to ignore her but soon they all become best friends. With this new entry, another person enters Sanjeevani - Dr. Abhimanyu Modi. He becomes the new head of Sanjeevani because of the financial problems. Everyone hates him and try to get rid of him but it's impossible. He starts liking Riddhima but soon, Armaan and Riddhima's relationship is out in front of everyone. Dr. Shashank and Anjali refuse to make Armaan their Riddhima's life partner. Armaan goes on a hunger strike to prove his love and finally they accept their relationship and get ready for their marriage. Rahul and Muskaan admit their love for each other but Rahul has to leave Sanjeevani for America. All the preparations have been made, just Armaan's parents create a big mess. Billy and Ananya are Armaan's parents who Armaan gets extremely irritated with because of their fights. Billy and Ananya are divorced but Dr. Shashank and Padma don't know about this. To hide this fact, all the interns including Rahul team up and create many stories. Shashank is suspicious about something hidden and therefore keeps a camera in Billy's room. This is when Sukirti Khandpal is replaced by Jennifer Winget.

Jennifer's entry is with a new song. Armaan and Riddhima get engaged but during their engagement, Shashank finds out about the divorce and Armaan admits all the lies and promises to never lie. Riddhima and Armaan are happily engaged and return back to the hospital. Abhimanyu starts liking Niki and vice versa. Though, Armaan is against their relationship and thinks Abhi is taking advantage of Niki. Riddhima finds out that Niki and Abhi like each other and tries to make Armaan understand but he refuses. Abhi and Armaan have a boxing match where both of them get injured hurting Niki and Riddhima. Muskaan is trying to avoid Rahul as much as she can. Rahul tries to stay away too because he finds out he is unable to be a father. The new aim of the interns is Dr. Shubhankar and Dr. Keerti's wedding. There were many problems but finally, Atul, Anjali, Muskaan, Rahul, Riddhima, Armaan, Abhi and Niki solved it and succeeded. Abhi and Niki go one step ahead but after getting insulted by Armaan and his friends, Abhi goes against Niki.

Armaan and Riddhima again have a problem because of Shubhankar's sister coming between them. Armaan tries to make Riddhima understand that it was just a small thing but she doesn't think so. Armaan decides to leave Mumbai forever but alas, he has an accident and loses his memory of 2 years. At first, Riddhima and the rest of the interns just think Armaan is joking around but when Dr. Shashank proves it to Riddhima she realises. Armaan thinks Riddhima is trying to woo him but poor Riddhima couldn't control her feelings. Meanwhile, Rahul was hiding the fact that he's unable to be a father from Muskaan but Muski was determined to know what was happening in Rahul's life. When she found out, she asked him to do a test in the hospital. Riddhima handled the test and the results were negative. He was unable to be a father. He broke-up with Muskaan and left her heart-broken.

Riddhima, Anjali and Atul try to get Armaan to remember things but he falls unconscious. However, Armaan finds out about his 'basket'. He tries to find out who loved him and threatens to commit suicide. Scared Riddhima, admits that it's her that loves him. At first, Armaan is unable to believe the fact that Riddhima is the one he used to love. Meanwhile, Niki admits her love for Abhi but finds out that he is married and feels betrayed. She tries to avoid him at all points but finds out that Abhi's wife left him during his accident and since then there has been no contact. Abhi asks for a divorce from his wife - Jiah. Jiah refuses. Riddhima is all heart-broken thinking Armaan won't accept her again. But Armaan starts to fall for her again - he sees her everywhere and wants to make her happy. To pass his internship, he has to remember all he has forgotten. Riddhima and Atul help him to study but Dr. Shashank doesn't want Riddhima to go near Armaan. In the test, Riddhima thinks Armaan has got all his answers wrong and she changes the answer papers. Unfortunately, Dr. Shashank finds out and suspends Riddhima from Sanjeevani and decides to send her to Pondicherry.

Riddhima does not want to go against her dad's wishes and leaves for Pondicherry when Niki and Atul kidnap her from the airport and bring her back. Dr. Shashank found Armaan's original answer paper and said all was correct and allowed Armaan and Riddhima to be together again. But happiness cannot last that long! On the day of Armaan and Riddhima's engagement, Riddhima goes to the hospital to meet him. Over there a minister's daughter is admitted for an abortion. 2 terrorist (minister's daughter's husband and friend) put Riddhima on a gun point and take over the entire ward. The terrorist is in love with the minister's daughter and they ran away and got married. They want to keep their child but the minister is against it. Muskaan, who sees Riddhima with the two terrorist informs everyone and calls the police. Armaan tries to get in but is stopped by the police and Dr. Shashank. Slowly, Armaan creeps into the ward and Riddhima persuades them that the two boys aren't terrorists.

The minister on the other hand disconnects all the phone and mobile networks and convinces the commissioner to shoot the two "terrorists" on sight. On the other hand, Armaan tries to contact Dr. Shashank to tell him the entire story but fails. Armaan and Riddhima decide to get engaged inside the ward. And the minister agrees to all the conditions the two boys have kept with the commissioner telling them to release all the hostages. All the patients come out but none of the five. Everyone is tensed in the hospital while Armaan swears that he will take out Riddhima from all problems.

The police again, announces to release the minister's daughter and the two doctors but they refuse and say that they will all come out together. Dr. Shashank requests Riddhima to come out and explain but as Riddhima comes out she decides she will not come without Armaan and returns back to the ward. Meanwhile on tv, the minister announces that they will not be shot and they are all safe. Abhi tells Niki and Atul that he overheared Minister saying that let the police force be alert on their positions. All the five come out together from the ward. Abhi alerts them to return back. Then one of the "terrorist" gets hyper and gets out his gun. Armaan runs ahead to stop him and the firing starts killing both the guys and the minister's daughter. The minister breaks down immediately. Armaan and Riddhima are the only ones left on the spot, a bullet is shot in Armaan's direction and to save him, Riddhima comes in the way and the bullet hits her on the back. She falls on top of Armaan and he hits his head on a glass table. Both injured and Atul, Anjali, Abhi, Niki, Muskaan and Shashank all shocked at what happened in a few minutes. Both, Armaan and Riddhima are rushed into the Operation Theatre. Niki and Abhi come out of the OT holding each other’s hands, when suddenly Jiah comes and falls on Abhi with her wrist cut in slits. Abhi leaves Niki’s hands and takes Jiah to an OT. Niki stands all alone. Sanjeevani is marooned by emptiness.

Thus,the season 1 ends on a sad note with the death of Armaan and Riddhima along with the break up of Abhimanyu and Nikita.
