Graffiti is the forthcoming third studio album from American R&B/pop singer Chris Brown. It is currently set for release on December 8, 2009.[1]
Background
Released as a digital download on September 29, 2009, the album's lead single "I Can Transform Ya", features Lil Wayne and Swizz Beatz who also produced it. So far it has reached #23 and #12 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and U.S. Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts respectively.[2]. The Music Video aired on MTV at 6am on 27th October 2009
Chris Brown announced via his official twitter site that his album has been pushed forward to December 8, 2009. He also used his twitter to confirm two versions of the album to be released on the same day, there will be the regular version and also a deluxe edition which contains 6 additional tracks.
Recording and production
In November 2008, Chris Brown began working on his third studio album and confirmed the title, "Graffiti" at the 2008 American Music Awards according to MSNBC. Brown has already confirmed that the album is completed, and the release date is December 8th. [3][4][5]
On the album, Brown has worked with Swizz Beatz as well as frequent collaborator Lil Wayne. Swizz Beatz told MTV that "he's got something to prove," and "has worked on 60-70 songs."[6] Brown's next single is rumoured to be produced by Polow Da Don and is set to feature Trey Songz and Game.[7]
Concept and themes
Since 2008, Brown started to work on a upcoming studio album. According with him, he will experiment a different musical direction for his new album, while hoping to emulate fellow American singers Prince and Michael Jackson. He says, "I wanted to change it up and really be different. Like my style nowadays, I don't try to be typical urban. I want to be like how Prince and Michael [Jackson] and Stevie Wonder were. They can cross over to any genre of music."[8]
Reception
When snippets of the songs on the standard edition of the album leaked on line, they received a mixed response from fans.
Singles
- The first single, "I Can Transform Ya" was released on September 29, 2009.[9] The song debuted on the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs at number 96 and peaked at number 13. It also peaked at number 23 in the United States.
- The second single, called "Crawl", has been confirmed by Chris Brown.[10] It will be released on November 13, 2009. The song made its official debut on the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart at number 99. The video for will feature R&B artist and model Cassie. Photos have been released from the video shoot onto the internet.[11]
