The 2009 Western Kentucky Hilltoppers football team will represent Western Kentucky University during the 2009 college football season. The team's Head Coach is David Elson. WKU was formerly a Independent team in 2008, before their move to the Sun Belt Conference in 2009. This will be the first season where the Hilltoppers are eligible for a Sun Belt conference championship and a postseason bowl game. The Hilltoppers will play their home games at Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Coaching Change

On November 9, 2009, David Elson was officially released as WKU's head coach. He will remain as head coach until the end of the 2009 season. He will be replaced by Western Kentucky alumnus Stanford running backs coach Willie Taggart.[1]
