Nancy Humphries O'Dell (born February 25, 1966)[1] is an American television host and entertainment journalist.

Early life

Nancy O'Dell was born in Sumter, South Carolina[citation needed] and moved to Myrtle Beach at the age of 6 months.[citation needed] She graduated from the now-closed Coastal Academy High School in 1984. She went on to graduate Summa Cum Laude with a major in Marketing from Clemson University in 1990, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Then known as Nancy Humphries, she won the Miss South Carolina pageant in 1987 and represented the state at Miss America 1988, however she did not place.

In 1993, she joined NBC's WTVJ in Miami co-anchoring the 5:30pm news with Jackie Nespral. She left the station in 1995 to move to Las Vegas with her then husband.

Career

Nancy O'Dell and Billy Bush served as co-hosts of Access Hollywood, a 30-minute entertainment news program produced and syndicated by NBC Universal Domestic Television Distribution. She has been with the show since its 1996 inception, and became co-host in 1999 until her departure in December 18, 2009. Nancy O'Dell serves as a contributor for NBC's Today Show and Dateline NBC. In addition, Nancy O'Dell co-hosted the Miss USA and Miss Universe competitions in 2004 and 2005, respectively. She also co-hosted the New York City St. Patrick's Day Parade on WNBC from 2004-2006. She also co-hosted the Miss USA 2006 pageant with Drew Lachey, the Miss Universe 2006 pageant with Carlos Ponce, as well as the recent Miss USA 2007 pageant with Tim Vincent.

Nancy O'Dell has appeared in several movies as either herself or a generic entertainment reporter, and has also taken on other acting roles, including minor roles in the television series Charmed (Season 1 finale and season 5 premiere) and Scream 3 as herself (2000). Nancy O'Dell was also the host and consulting producer of the USA Network talent competition Nashville Star over its first two seasons, but made the choice to leave the show upon its move from Saturday to Tuesday because of conflicts with her Access Hollywood schedule.

On January 13, 2008, after the 65th Annual Golden Globe Awards were canceled as a result of the 2007–08 Writers Guild of America strike, Nancy O'Dell co-hosted NBC's 65th Annual Golden Globe Awards Winners Special with Access Hollywood co-anchor Billy Bush.

In 2009, Nancy O'Dell was also the host of NBC's pre-show for the 66th Annual Golden Globes with both Tiki Barber and Brooke Burke. She also starred as herself in the new Hannah Montana Season 3 episode Cheat It.

It was announced on August 21, 2009 that Nancy has booked a guest appearance on the new Fox sitcom Brothers — and a spot in the wrestling ring on WWE's SummerSlam.[2]

O'Dell and Maria Menounos guest co-hosted WWE Raw on October 12, 2009.[3]

On December 18, 2009, after 13 years O'Dell left her presenter role on Access Hollywood to pursue other broadcasting interests. It has been reported that she left her Access Hollywood 5 year contract 2 years shy of completing it with the show. It is still unknown at this time where O'Dell will be working in the future.

Dancing With The Stars

Nancy O'Dell was set to participate in the eighth season of Dancing with the Stars and was to be paired with professional dancer Tony Dovolani. She had to withdraw from the competition before the season started due to a knee injury sustained during training; her replacement was Melissa Rycroft from the most recent cycle of The Bachelor.[4] O'Dell underwent arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn meniscus in her knee on March 20.[5]

Personal life

On June 29, 2005, Nancy O'Dell married Keith Zubchevich, an executive for Conviva Networks. Nancy O'Dell gave birth to her first child, daughter Ashby Grace, on June 11, 2007 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.[6] During her pregnancy, O'Dell says unexpected and surprising changes happened to her body, which prompted her to write a parenting book: Full of Life.[7] Zubchevich has two other children named Tyler and Carson. Nancy O'Dell is also the MDA National ALS Ambassador.
