Ramón Núñez (born November 14, 1985 in Tegucigalpa, Honduras) is a Honduran football player, who plays central midfielder. He currently is unattached.
Early career
Núñez grew up in the United States, coming with his family on his father's investor visa in the early 1990s and graduating from W. T. White High School in Dallas, Texas.[1][2] He was drafted by the Dallas Burn sixth overall in the 2004 MLS SuperDraft after one season of college soccer at Southern Methodist University for which he was named the Missouri Valley Conference freshman of the year.
Professional career
In his first year with the Dallas Burn (which later changed their name to FC Dallas), Núñez saw very limited action, playing a total of 107 minutes in eight games. However, he came on strong at the end of his second season, earning a starting role and finishing with five league goals and three assists. After losing a starting spot in, he was traded to Chivas USA in August 2007 where he failed to impress. He was waived at the end of the season.
Soon after, Ramon joined Olimpia of Honduras where he made 34 appearances, finding the net three times. He was a key player in Olimpia's lineup and played mostly as an attacking midfielder where he acted as the playmaker of the team, providing several assists. Due to his good form with the squad and with the Honduran national football squad he was signed on loan for six months by Puebla of the Mexican First Division where he wears the number 10 jersey.
He made his first goal with Puebla on February 18, 2009 against C.F. Pachuca in his fifth appearance with the club (his first starting appearance). His goal made the match 2-1.
He made his second goal on February 21 against Jaguares after a penalty shoot, to make the match 1-0.
He scored his third goal of the season in a penalty shoot in his tenth appearance for the club against San Luis.
He has continued to score for 'La Franja' since then and has managed to bring his goal tally up to five goals which have contributed to Puebla's recent success. He has assisted five goals throughout the season.
Nunez was transferred to Cruz Azul for the 2009-2010 season. In the Concacaf Champions league he has scored two goals. One against Columbus crew and the other against Saprissa. On half season he became substitute and later on he was not called for the FMF finals. This was because he missed an important match in Cruz Azul to celebrate the next day, the clasification to the 2010 FIFA World Cup, in Honduras, his hometown.
In January 2010, he was loaned to Unirea Alba Iulia.Cite error: A <ref>
