Biography

Prior to Oceanic Flight 815

Claire, a young Australian woman, held an unspecified job at "Fish 'n' Fry", presumably a fast food chain. Claire became pregnant out of wedlock, and she intended to give the child up for adoption after the baby's father, Thomas, walked out on her after her first trimester. Her plans to give the baby up were altered by her own guilt and the involvement of a psychic, Mr. Richard Malkin, who hounded Claire for several months, telling her she must raise the child herself "or else." When she refused to listen to his insistent demands, the psychic appeared to recant and told her he found a couple in Los Angeles for the baby, and even arranged the flight for her. After the crash, Claire came to believe that the psychic may have known of the airplane's impending disaster, and set her up.

On the island

Despite an outgoing nature, Claire was ignored or avoided by the other survivors, presumably due to her pregnancy. With the exception of Jack, who checked her physical condition, only Charlie approached Claire frequently, and the two have become very deep friends, with romance a possibility. She and Charlie were kidnapped by Ethan Rom. Charlie was found first, soon after the abduction, and Claire wandered back to the castaways two weeks later, still pregnant but with no memory of anything after the crash.

She gave birth to a baby boy, later named Aaron, in the middle of the jungle. Kate had to deliver the baby, because Jack was in the middle of trying to save Boone's life while Jin and Charlie looked on. Since the birth, presumably due to her kidnapping and the psychic's warning, Claire has had trouble trusting others with her baby. Nonetheless, Charlie continues to remain ever-present, helping Claire with her baby when she needs it. He has discovered that Sawyer's voice will soothe the crying newborn.

Claire is always seen wearing a necklace with the Chinese character 愛 (ai) which means "love".

It seems that Claire is beginning to get her memory back. After Danielle asked to hold her baby, she sees scratches on Danielle's arm and had a flashback of when she was attacked.

Claire was the survivor who discovered the bottle of messages from the raft when it washed up on the beach. She talked to Shannon about it, then they approached Sun and gave it to her.

In the episode "The 23rd Psalm" Mr. Eko asks her why she named Aaron that name and Eko gave a biblical reference to Moses' brother's name was Aaron. Claire discovered that the Virgin Mary Statue had heroin in it. She said that she remembered "something about him being a drug addict" to Charlie. At the end of the episode she packs his bags and told him to stay away from her and Aaron.
