He is also an Australian Sevens representative who received a surprise call-up to play for Australia's Qantas Wallabies during their Spring Tour to Wales late in 2009. In March 2010, it was announced that the team expected to expand the [[Super 14]] to the Super 15, the [[Melbourne Rebels]], had signed Kingi and he is now apart of a 5-man squad but the squad will eventually rise to at least 25 players before the start of the 2011 Super 15 season.

Richard Kingi is an Australian professional Rugby union footballer[1], born (1989-03-17)March 17, 1989 in Tauranga, New Zealand.

Brought up in Te Puke near the Bay of Plenty, Kingi's family moved to Australia when he was 15 years old. [2]

He played for Sunnybank rugby club, before going onto representative football that included the Queensland U19s,U20s, the IRB Junior World Championships and the Australian 7s. His international debut for the Wallabies occured on the 2009 Spring Tour of Japan and Great Britain against club side Cardiff [3]

He is currently the reserve halfback for Queensland Reds behind Will Genia [4] in the Super 14 and the Australian Provincial Championship.

The Melbourne Rebels, the recently established 15th franchise of the SANZAR Super rugby competition, signed Kingi to a two year deal in March of 2010. [5].
