Allison "Sonny" Munroe (Demi Lovato) is a fictional main character in the Disney Channel sitcom Sonny With a Chance and the latest cast member of So Random! after the previous was fired. Her most prominent character traits are her kindness, friendliness and sweetness, and along with Tawni Hart, she appeared in every episode aired. In the episode "West Coast Story" she discovered that So Random! has a rivalry with MacKenzie Falls which started two years ago when Chad Dylan Cooper mocked So Random!. Sonny has an on-and-off relationship with Tawni Hart, a diva, who isn't very nice to Sonny but the two often get along very much.

Background

Sonny is from Wisconsin, like her mother, and was somewhat born around the year 1992. She moved to Hollywood, California with her mother after being cast as a member of So Random!. When Sonny went to Hollywood she did not know she was in for a difficult time with Tawni Hart, and things don't get better when they have to share a room, as told by Marshall. Sonny is friends with the So Random! cast members, is the on-and-off friend of Tawni, and expresses a love/hate relationship with Chad Dylan Cooper. Sonny's past as a Blossom Scout is revealed in the episode "Cookie Monsters". In the episode "Gummy With a Chance", Sonny made up a ritual of needing to chew gum to be funny on So Random!, but eventually works it out at the end of the episode. Sonny is also an overly enthusiastic fan of Trey Brothers, as seen in "Sonny With a Song", but eventually doesn't like him anymore because she finds out he steals songs for credit.

Personality

Sonny is nice, friendly, sweet and sometimes over confident. She is good friends with Nico, Grady and Zora, is not often getting along with Tawni and expresses a love interest with Chad Dylan Cooper, even though it doesn't show much. Even though she might get them in to trouble, she is well liked by the cast members and Marshall, but not all the time with Tawni. She generally tries to avoid confrontations with Tawni, but often gets caught, even though she might not order Sonny to do something for what she has done. Even though Sonny and Tawni remain close friends, Sonny is often picked on by Tawni.

Sonny shares Tawni's interests in music and performance, and is an obsessive fan of Trey Brothers, but is freed from her Trey obsession after discovering he steals songs for credit and money. In the episode "Sonny With a Song", Sonny is heard to be a great singer, singing her favorite song, "Me, Myself, and Time", successfully singing it before Trey even could (by tapping on the glass of Grady and Nico's self-proclaimed "magic trick" and eventually making Trey disappear). Sonny is not very athletic, though she is still thin, and doesn't loathe the security guard, Murphy, because she never contacted with him (unlike Nico and Grady).

Sonny was described to have a "fat heart" by Tawni in the episode "Walk a Mile in My Pants" because Sonny isn't self-centered, and is very nice, friendly and sweet, and eventually gets Tawni to stop wearing Tawni's thin "skinny jeans", as Tawni prefers to call it. Tawni tried to make Sonny jealous in "You've Got Fan Mail" because she didn't receive any fan mail, but Sonny doesn't care, even though she pretends to be a fan called Eric to get Tawni to leave Sonny in peace. She eventually discovers Tawni has been hiding all of Sonny's fan mail, but accidentally takes off the Eric disguise, leaving her exposed to Marshall. But Chad eventually decides to wear Weird Beard (Chad and Josh's nickname for the Eric disguise), and saves Sonny, even though he doesn't want to admit he cared and instead responded that he just wanted to try on the outfit.

In the episode "Fast Friends", Sonny was described as a diva by Tween Weekly TV interviewer Santiago Geraldo, because she called Chad a "jerk-face", making Sonny the most hated person in the So Random! building.

Sonny and her mother, Connie, become addicted to MacKenzie Falls in the upcoming episode "Falling for the Falls", and just can't wait to ask Chad what happens in the season finale between Mackenzie and Chloe, though she words it as if she wants him to ask her out instead, which he does.

Relationship with Tawni

Sonny and Tawni have an on-and-off friendship, mostly because of their constant bickering and sometimes because they help each other, even though Tawni prefers to not help Sonny and let her on her own. Even though Tawni is sometimes mean to Sonny, Sonny helps Tawni with her problems because Sonny is shown to care for Tawni and will do anything to keep her out of trouble. One reason is in the episode "Poll'd Apart" when gossip blogger Sharona blogs bad things about Tawni but Sonny steps in and talks to Sharona and tells her to stop blogging about Sharona, but accidentally says Tawni was wearing a bald cap and blogs about Tawni being bald, and Sonny makes "Wickid Witch of the Web" to go against Sharona's blogs, but it only makes matters worse, and eventually the So Random! cast defeat Sharona when she falls in water.

Relationship with Chad

The relationship between Sonny and Chad is particularly the same as the one between Sonny and Tawni, even though Sonny prefers not to help Chad because he only cares about himself. Sonny and Chad have a love/hate relationship, and is shown in the episodes Chad appears in. In "Guess Who's Coming to Guest Star", Jackson Tyler's visit is cancelled and Chad guest stars instead, and Sonny goes crazy because she dreamt that she looked in Chad's eyes and eventually fell in love. Sonny tries to do anything to not look into Chad's eyes (because they cause Sonny to go to extremes) when they do a sketch. Even though Sonny has a love interest in Chad, she will do anything to get people to stop thinking they are a couple (including Selena Gomez). Sonny compliments Chad's "beautiful eyes" (one of them) in "Battle of the Networks' Stars".

In Chad's first episode, "West Coast Story", Sonny meets him and is starstruck until learning that So Random! and MacKenzie Falls have a growing rivalry ever since two years ago when Chad mocked So Random! with his fame and influence. Sonny doesn't think they should have a rivalry, until Chad ruins Sonny's "peace picnic" by getting the cast members stuck to their chairs and having Grady's butt and Sonny (being hitten by a food) all over the internet. Sonny and the others challenge MacKenzie Falls to a Musical Chairs match and eventually Sonny wins when faking an injury, successfully tricking Chad and making her win, and claims she is better at acting than Chad.
