Manohla Dargis (born April 1961) is a chief film critic for The New York Times. She was formerly a film writer at The Village Voice, the film critic for the Los Angeles Times, and the editor of the film section at LA Weekly. She has written for a variety of publications, including Film Comment and Sight and Sound.[1]
Dargis grew up in Manhattan's East Village, expressing an early love of film through regular attendance at St. Mark's Cinema and Theater 80.[2] She is a 1979 graduate of Hunter College High School and 1985 graduate of Purchase College, SUNY (literature). She currently lives in Los Angeles.
