The Battle of Peremyshl (Battle of Przemysl) - a battle between the militias of Ukrainians and Poles from 2 to 10 November 1918 during the Polish-Ukrainian War. This battle was the first during the war.
On the night of November 1, after the proclamation of the Ukrainian power throughout Galicia, clashes broke out the Polish and Ukrainian residents of Peremyshl. Austrian governor refused to transfer power in Peremyshl Ukrainians and transfer it to the Poles. At the same time the Polish police began to suppress the demonstrations of Ukrainians that led to the deaths of seven Ukrainian students at the railway station. This led to armed action.
November 3, a 220 armed farmers from local villages arrived in Peremyshl. With the support of Ukrainian citizens, the Polish police was ousted from the city, and all power in Peremyshl was transferred to the Ukrainian side. It was organized by calling residents in the militias for fighting with the Poles. Throughout the week calm remained in the city.
November 10, Polish troops numbering 2000 people came to town. 700 Ukrainians opposed them. By the evening the same day Ukrainian formation were driven out of Peremyshl. Because Peremyshl fell into the hands of the Poles, they were able to send reinforcements to Lviv that was isolated from Poland, and later fully occupy the city.
