History

On the 270 acre property, there is an artificial lake whose dam was built in 1928 by the Bartlett brothers, who wanted to increase the value of the property. They later sold it to a family member, Guy Bartlett, who charged 25¢ admission onto the property. The lake and the surrounding areas were used for many episodes of Bonanza[2] and a variety of movies, including The Parent Trap, Kissin' Cousins, and Brigham Young. In 1954, the First Congregational Church of Los Angeles went looking for a camp to buy. Guy Bartlett's accountant suggested Cedar Lake Camp, and the scouting party immediately fell for the property. The church bought, at first, 110 acres, but then increased the size to the current 270 acres.
