Name of the district
میدان ښار / میدان شهر In Pashto it is pronounced as "Maydaan Khaar/Shaar/Xhaar" while in Dari(Farsi) it is pronounced as "Meydan Shahr". Shaar/Khaar/Xhaar and Shahr stands for "City".
Khaar = Northern dialect of Pashto Shaar = Southern dialect Xhaar = Central dialect
As you can see, shahr and shaar are very similar. However, it does not mean that the name of the city/district is in Dari(.
There is another reason why the name of the district is not in Persian/Farsi/Dari. If it was in Dari, than it should have been "Shar i Meydan". I will use some examples
- Pashto ---- Dari(Farsi)
- Maydaan Shaar (Maydaan City) ---- Shahr-i-Maydan (City of Maydan)
- Kabul Shaar (Kabul City) ---- Shahr-i-Kabul (City of Kabul)
- Herat Shaar (Herat City) ---- Shahr-i-Herat (City of Herat)
- () word to word translation of Pashto to English and Farsi to English.

Name of the district was not spelled correctly
The name of the district is spelled as Maidan Shar, not Meydan Shahr.
"Presently its capital is Maidan Shar, (means Ground with city) which lays about 35 kilometers to the west of Kabul."[1]
I have given the official website of Wardag province as a reference.
Official website of Wardag Province: http://www.mwardag.gov.af/?pg=133 (Ketabtoon (talk) 01:02, 25 July 2009 (UTC))
- http://www.mrrd.gov.af/nabdp/Provincial%20Profiles/Wardak%20PDP%20Provincial%20profile.pdf is another government website and they have spelled the name of the district/city as "Maidan Shar". (Ketabtoon (talk) 17:34, 25 July 2009 (UTC))
