Paul Rodriguez (born December 31, 1984, in Tarzana, California U.S.) is an American professional skateboarder and actor. Growing up in Chatsworth, California, is where "P-Rod", a nickname given to him by his skateboarding friends, started skateboarding. At age 13, Paul’s dad bought him his first skateboard for $30. Paul got his first sponsor at age 14 with GIRL Skateboarding and was a pro skater at age 16. In the beginning it was strictly recreational. Paul Jr., nicknamed “P-Rod,” would go to skate shops with his friends, where they would watch skating videos all day long and later on “try to do what all the pros were doing.” As P-Rod’s skills improved, one of his friends took notice and began filming his skating sessions. “My friend Nigel sent my video out to a lot of people and I started getting calls,” he said. “I owe him a lot.” Since then P-Rod has made quite a name for himself, proving quite the success story.(Dub Magazine Sep, 2004)

Paul is an outspoken Christian, and has a tattoo of Jesus on his arm, and says “God’s not waiting for me to be perfect”. A quote from him: “My goal has already come true. Every kid’s dream is to become a pro skater, you know? Not only have I become a pro skater, but to me personally, I ride for the best sponsors there are. That’s even more than I ever expected… I didn’t skate to please everyone else. I started skating because I love to skate, you gotta to watch out because there will come a point where you’ll forget that “(EXPN)His sure determined attitude and calm composure on the skateboard, exemplifies his great ability in tournaments across America. Paul Rodriguez starred as the main character in the film Street Dreams, a film written and directed by Rob Dyrdek. From skateboarding to starring in movies, Paul Rodriguez has made a well lived lifestyle out of the sport he loves to do the most.

Skateboarding Career

Paul Rodriguez, nicknamed P-Rod, began skating and competing fourteen years ago in 1996 in his hometown of Chatsworth, Califronia [1]. Rodriguez's career achievements comprise gaining the 2008 champion title, at Baltimore Stop, several top five finishes within the Dew Tour, obtaining a silver in Tampa Pro in 2009, winning the 2008 Maloof Cup, gained back to back championship status in the GvR contest of 2004 and 2005, becoming winner of the Slam City Jam in 2005, and taking first place in the eS game of SKATE in 2003. As well as receiving awards in the prestigious skateboarding and extreme sports competition, the X Games.

His X Games career includes: winning a silver medal in the X Games 2008, winning a bronze medal in the 2003 the X Games, and the previously unheard of back to back gold medals win in the 2004 and 2005 X Games [2]. His other skating achievements include becoming the first skateboarder and Mexican American sponsored by Nike; he now has his own line of shoe he advertises and designed, and he won the 2005 FTC award for Best Trick and was the 2002 Trans World Skateboarding Rookie of the Year.[3].

Among elements of Rodriguez's skateboarding style that appeal to judges and corporate sponsors – such as Nike, Silver Trucks, Hubba Wheels and Active[4] – are his ability to portray competitive skateboarding as seemingly effortless and rare incidence of faults while skateboarding. His stance is considered “goofy foot” instead of regular; this means that when he skates his left foot is kept in back toward the tail of the board instead of in the front like in a regular stance.[5] Rodriguez has no real signature tricks, he would rather skate certain places; such as ledges, rails, and stairs where he can be creative, originate new tricks and express himself. He prefers the street style of skating when compared to vert.
