History
Intellitec Medical Institute, a for-profit medical career training college, began in 1966 as PPI Health Careers School in Colorado Springs, Colorado. In 1988, the school relocated to their current 27,180 square foot location. IntelliTec Medical Institute was obtained by N B Education, LLC in November 2006 with goals for future growth and additional medical training centers.
Programs of study
Associate Degrees (Associate of Occupational Studies Degree):
• Massage Therapist - Massage is one of the oldest forms of healing. The Chinese date massage therapy back 3,000 years. The ancient Hindus, Persians and Egyptians applied forms of massage for many ailments, and Hippocrates wrote papers recommending the use of rubbing and friction for joint and circulatory problems. Today, there are many benefits of massage therapy. As an accepted part of many physical rehabilitation programs, massage therapy has also proven beneficial for many chronic conditions, including low back pain, arthritis, bursitis, fatigue, high blood pressure, diabetes, infertility, smoking cessation and depression. Massage therapists have the option to work for a rehabilitation clinic, a massage chain or even start their own business form their home.
• Medical Administrative Assistant - Over the past few years, federal rules of reimbursement for Medicare and Medicaid have changed and medical billing has gone online and technology-based. There is now a need for increasing numbers of specially trained office staff in the medical field. Medical Administrative Assistant's use their knowledge of medical terminology, office technology, and medical office procedures in their work as receptionists, insurance clerks, transcriptionists and office managers in medical office settings.
• Medical Laboratory Technician - (or clinical lab technician), works under the supervision of a medical technologist or physician to perform medical tests on tissue, blood and body fluids to help physicians diagnose and treat diseases. Most medical laboratory techs begin their career working in a laboratory, acute care or community hospital. Once some experience is gained, medical laboratory technicians work in many of the following settings: hospitals, clinics, private laboratories, public health organizations or research and development departments of pharmaceutical companies.

• Dental Assisting Certificate (American Dental Association of Commission on Dental Accreditation) - Dental assistants perform many different variations of patient care, office, and laboratory duties. They sterilize and disinfect instruments and equipment, prepare and lay out the instruments and materials required to treat each patient, and obtain and update patients' dental records. Assistants other duties include, but are not limited to, ensuring patients are comfortable in the dental chair and prepare them for treatment. During dental procedures, assistants work alongside the dentist to provide assistance when needed.
• Medical Assistant - Medical assistants perform basic tasks to keep the offices of physicians, podiatrists, chiropractors, and other health practitioners running efficiently. Depending on the location and size of the practice, the duties of medical assistants vary from office to office. In small/hometown practices, medical assistants usually handle both administrative and clinical duties and report directly to an office manager or physician. Those in large practices tend to specialize in a particular area, under the supervision of department administrators.
• Personal Training - Personal training is one of the top 10 fastest-growing career fields, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Personal Trainers may obtain many different types of certifications in the field of Professional Fitness Training. There are many different certifications available for the professional fitness trainer today. In fact there are so many it can be confusing to a personal training fitness client as well as a new personal trainer seeking certification.
• Short Term Massage Therapy - Short term massage therapy is similar to the associates massage therapy degree. Short-term massage therapy focuses on massage techniques such as: Swedish, Shiatsu, Deep Tissue, Reflexology, Sports therapy and Hot Stone. This can all be done in as little as 8 months and after completion, a person is eligible to register with the state of Colorado and sit for the National Certification exam. Upon passing your exam, individuals are officially recognized as certified massage therapists.
