Synthetic

Synthetic is usually used in the sense of synthesis, the combination of two or more parts, whether by design or by natural processes. Furthermore, it may imply being prepared or made artificially, in contrast to naturally. See: artificial.

In the sense of combination

• Synthetic option position, a concept in finance

• Synthetic language (# 1), a language type that often uses several small pirces of words to form new words.

In the sense of artificial

• Synthetic fiber, a fiber not made from natural (animal, plant) materials

In the sense of both

• Synthetic chemical or synthetic compress, produced by the process of chemical synthesis
• Synthetic organic compounds are tens of thousands of synthetic chemical compounds, all containing carbon, that are extremely useful, including medicines, rubbers, plastics, refrigerants
• Synthetic fuel
• Synthetic organic compounds can be another class of manmade contaminants that may be present in in the water, in the air, or in solid substances.
