Dennis Raphael

Dennis Raphael is currently a professor of Health Policy and Management at York University in Toronto. Dr. Raphael received his Ph.D. from the University of Toronto in 1975. He completed his M.Sc. in 1974 (State University of New York) and B.Sc. in 1972 (Brooklyn College of New York).

The most of his over 150 scientific publications have focused on the health effects of income inequality and poverty, the quality of life of communities and individuals, and the impact of government decisions on Canadians' health and well-being. Over the course of his career he has published seven books, 38 book chapters, and 114 refereed journal articles.

Currently he is working on the social determinants of health and the impacts of globalization on the health of Canadians. More recently, Dr. Raphael has been credited by many with having significantly raised the issue of the social determinants of health in Canada. He manages the 1240 member Social Determinants of Health Listserv at York University.
