BBC Newsline is the BBC's regional television news service for Northern Ireland. The programme is broadcast on BBC One from BBC Northern Ireland's headquarters in Broadcasting House, Ormeau Avenue, Belfast.

As well as being available via all multi-channel outlets in Northern Ireland (including via Sky Digital channel 101), the programme is available in the Republic of Ireland on channel 141 and in Great Britain on Sky channel 973. As the BBC UK regional TV on satellite service is broadcast unencrypted, it is possible to receive BBC Newsline anywhere in Europe using an appropriate receiver.

On air

BBC Newsline airs seven days a week.

Weekdays

Weekends

  • Saturdays 1210 and early evening (time varies)
  • Sundays early evening and late night (times vary)

The 1330, 1830 and 2225 weekday bulletins and all weekend bulletins are available on BBC iPlayer to viewers in Northern Ireland only.[2]

Programme history

The first edition of BBC Newsline was broadcast on 12 February 1996.[1] Although it was Noel Thompson[3][4] and Lynda Bryans[3] were the original choice of presenters, Noel Thompson was dropped causing Lynda Bryans to resign, meaning the programme's first presenting team were Jim Dougal and Yvette Shapiro.[1] Dougal was replaced as anchor by Conor Bradford after two months.[5] [6]

Newsline introduced teletext subtitles for deaf viewers on its launch.[7]
