Bhogar or bhogarnathar was a legendary South Indian siddhar (herbal healer). He was said to have been born into a goldsmithing family, and to have had miraculous powers. He is also said in some New Age circles to have been associated with Mahavatar Babaji.
He was the disciple of Kalanginathar who transferred all his knowledge to bhogar and assigned him several task for this world. Bhogar is linked to the ancient Nath tradition of India through Kalanginaathar.

It is said that just before the advent of Kali Yuga, he conferred with other siddhas and decided that Bhakti Yoga was the best solution to combat the darkness of Kali Yuga. Muruga worship was promoted as an ideal means. Bhogar developed the unique method of using Nava Pashanam to install the Muruga idol at Palani .
Bhogar’s Samadhi is to be found in the South West corridor at the Palani Muruga shrine.
