Canyon Vista Middle School (CVMS) is a Middle School located in Travis County in Austin, Texas. It is part of the Round Rock Independent School District. It has three subsidiary Elementary Schools:

It follows on to Westwood High School.

In 1986, Canyon Vista had an extension built to accommodate at least 200 extra lockers as well as 10 extra rooms.

CVMS was affected by the Robin Hood plan because its contains a higher proportion of upper-middle class families compared to other areas in Austin. Canyon Vista has won two blue ribbons from the United States Department of Education and has also been chosen by the Texas Education Agency as one of the top ten middle schools in Texas.

Courses

All the normal academic courses are taught at CVMS, but it also contains a class called OSR; outdoor sports and recreation. Because a small canyon runs behind the school, students are able to walk down there and learn about animal and plant life. OSR is available at most, if not all, Round Rock Independent School District schools, including the school that CVMS students rival the most, Grisham. Grisham and Canyon Vista students will, however, meet up for highschool at Westwood. A few years ago, the OSR teacher Joe Young at the time was fired; rumors stating he was involved in sexual contact with a minor were passed around. In addition, some Canyon Vista students run a newspaper called the Canyon Echoes. This newspaper won a national award for middle school papers in the 2003-2004 year.
