Song |
"Like a G6" is a song by group Far East Movement off their album Free Wired. The song features Dev and The Cataracs, and was produced by Niles Hollowell-Dhar of The Cataracs. The tune hit number 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 for the week ending October 30, 2010. The song's chorus samples the second verse from "Booty Bounce" by Dev.[1] The song also received the 'Airplay Gainer' award during its week upon the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
Background
The name of the song is open to listener interpretation.[2] Member of Far East Movement, Kev Nish, explained to MTV News: "A G6 is not a Gatorade flavor. It's not a car, convertible, four-door. It's not a watch. But Drake, Drake talks about having G4 pilots on deck, so we said, 'What's flyer than a G4?' Of course, it would be a G6."[3]
Remixes
There has been a remix made by rapper 50 Cent; Far East Movement later made a video thanking him for the remix.[4] Jermaine Dupri, Obie Trice and Adam Tensta also appear on a remix put together by Bottom Feeder.[5] The single has received 1.4 million digital downloads.[6] Also, Three 6 Mafia who are mentioned in the song, made a remix. Another remix is by rappers Slim Thug, Justin Newlan and Dre Day.
Music video
The model Erica Ocampo (a half French, half Filipino model) was the lead girl.[7] In the video, she acts as the assistant of Far East Movement to pick up a list of things written as a to-do list in her iPad before meeting at their show.[8] At the end, Far East Movement board a "G4" Gulfstream IV. Colette Carr, a fellow Cherrytree Records artist, who makes a guest appearance in the music video, released a remix of "Like A G6" with her own lyrics, featuring Cherry Cherry Boom Boom.[9]
