History
Formation and Early Years (2006-2007)
At the end of 2006, Soulidium was formed in Florida by singer-songwriter & music video director Michael McKnight. Guitarist AJ Maldonado would be the next member to join the band after seeing an ad posted by McKnight on Myspace. Soon to follow was guitarist Eric Beausoleil who AJ recommended to McKnight. After months of searching, drummer Danny Cayocca was found in Springfield, Missouri. Bassist and final member to join was Jake Jaden.
Children Of Chaos (2007-2009)
Children of Chaos which was released on June 19, 2007 was recorded entirely at Longview Recording Studio in Massachusetts.
The album featured strings work by American Grammy Award winning keyboardist, composer, arranger and record producer Jeff Bova, (credits include: Celine Dion, Michael Jackson, Blondie, Eric Clapton)[1] and mastering by the Grammy Award winning Bob Ludwig, (credits include: Jimi Hendrix, Paul McCartney, Madonna, Rolling Stones, Nirvana). [2]
The album was well received by fans and critics alike and was considered an overall success. Later in 2007, a devastating fire and clash over the bands direction split the original lineup and led McKnight to immediately begin replacing members and forming a new Soulidium.
In 2007, Soulidium appeared in the Saw IV Soundtrack which is the soundtrack for the film Saw IV. It was released on October 23, 2007 by WEA/Warner Bros. Records. Soulidium appeared on the soundtrack with fellow artists Avenged Sevenfold, Drowning Pool, Sixx: A.M., The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Nitzer Ebb, Ministry, Skinny Puppy, Emilie Autumn, Charlie Clouser and others.[1]
In 2008, American guitar manufacturer Dean Guitars sponsored and added Soulidium to their artist roster. [3]. Just a few months after McKnight recruited guitarist Shadow Morte into the band, Danny Cayocca returned to Soulidium on May 20, 2008.
A year after the release of Children of Chaos a Roadrunner Records, Blabbermouth.net story reported that Soulidium singer Michael McKnight and his Wife Angelina McKnight, creator of the gothic/vampire models site ViciousAngelz.com, had enlisted the expertise of Dr. Julio Hernandez in Miami, FL to perform a procedure that gave the couple permanent vampire fangs. The couple's extreme modifications were reported to make them "The first official vampire couple of rock/metal". [2]
Future Album (2009-Present)
After finishing a second tour with Sevendust along with Nonpoint and Alter Bridge that began July 29, Soulidium began writing for their second album titled "Fly 2 The Sun".
In March 2010, Soulidium recruited Guitarist Spyder Zero Prime and Bassist Ilyn Nathaniel to complete the band's lineup as it will appear on their new 2011 cd.
Soulidium has joined with producers Toby Wright, (credits include: Alice in Chains, Metallica, Ozzy, Korn, 3 Doors Down, Kiss), and Shawn Grove, (credits include: Sevendust, Matchbox 20, Collective Soul), to record their new cd which will release in early 2011. [3]
Collaboration With Other Artists
In September of 2010, Sevendust vocalist Lajon Witherspoon commited his vocal talents and joined Michael McKnight on Soulidium's 2011 cd title track, "Fly 2 The Sun" which was produced by Shawn Grove at Jan Smith Studios in Atlanta, GA. In October of 2010 Soulidium released their 2011 video EPK to their YouTube channel which features studio footage and interviews with the bandmembers regarding their upcoming 2011 release. [3]
Musical Style and Influences
Of the bands influences, McKnight stated on his personal MySpace page, "It is our intention to create a journey for our fans to experience and not just to hear. The world has gotten smaller and an artists ability to entertain their fans has become huge. Our music and videos have been influenced by the visions of artists like Trent Reznor, Slipknot, Pantera, Rob Zombie, Marilyn Manson and many others. Like those artists who have inspired us, we are looking to create a journey for our fans that will help them to loose themselves in the experience of it all. Being a rockstar is an illusion. If you want to be remembered, then give people something they will never forget..."[4]
Selective Music Videography
Soulidium has become known for writing, producing and directing many of their own vampire and various themed music videos. Soulidium has released videos including:
- Soulidium - "Live Forever (Vampire Anthem)"
- Soulidium - "The Light"
- Soulidium - "2011 Soulidium EPK"
- Soulidium - "Sacrificing You"
Soulidium has worked with 2 outside music video directors, Dale Resteghini, (credits include: Guns N Roses, Dope, Mudvayne, Trivium and Hatebreed) and Tampa horror filmmaker Marcus Koch. Their credits include:
- Soulidium - "Drama" Dale Resteghini
- Soulidium - "Trapped (Saw IV Motion Picture Soundtrack)" Marcus Koch
On January 11, 2008 director Marcus Koch and Soulidium were awarded the Joe LaLa award for Best Music Video for their Saw IV Soundtrack music video "Trapped" by the Tampa Indie Film Festival. [5]
