Kemnay Academy is an secondary school in Kemnay, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. It is one of seventeen secondary schools run by Aberdeenshire Council and has roughly 680 pupils. Located by the bank of the River Don, Aberdeenshire the school finds itself in a picturesque location with breathtaking views of the Scottish countryside.

History

Built in 1980, Kemnay Academy was initially created in response to a growing need for a secondary school to accommodate the growing number of pupils in Kintore and Kemnay who previously went to Inverurie Academy. After it's contruction, Kemnay Academy served the surrounding Kemnay and Kintore communities and their three feeder primary schools (Kintore Primary, Kemnay Primary, Aleshousewells Primary). At the turn of the century Kemnay Academy then began accepting pupils from the neighbouring Blackburns' Kinellar Primary.

Year on year, Kemnay Academy now sees a steep rise in its role and is earmarked for a new school in the near future following several extensions and the installation of temporary accommodation.

Subjects

The school teaches a diverse range subjects, offering most at all levels of Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) school qualifications: Standard Grade, Intermediate 1 & 2, Higher and Advanced Higher.

The wide range of subjects are taught by experienced and passionate faculty members which has resulted in the school's generally above-average exam results.

Senior Management

The senior management team (SMT) at Kemnay Academy consists of the rector and three depute-rectors who also carry out the role of Head of Years.

  • Ms. Fran Jones - Depute Rector (First and Second Year Head)

  • Mr. Phil Gaiter - Depute Rector (Fifth and Sixth Year Head)

Pupils

Approximately 680 attend the school each year between the ages of approximately 11 to 18. The pupils normally attended one of the four feeder primary schools in the catchment area; Kintore Primary, Kemnay Primary, Kinellar Primary, Aleshousewells Primary.

In the sixth year section of Kemnay Academy there are several positions of responsibility offered such as the prefect team and the Head Boy and Head Girl who are appointed to help with the running of the school and also to work in co-operation with the Senior Management Team (SMT).
