Cheruvadi is an Ancient town famous for timber, rice and cattle business and exchange, located 20 kilometres east of Calicut.

Name

The name calls frome "cheriya-vadi".means "little garden"

Climate

The place has a generally humid climate with a very hot season extending from March to May. The rainy season is during the South West Monsoon, which sets in the first week of June and extends up to second week of September. The North East Monsoon extends from the second half of October through November. The average annual rainfall is 3313 mm. The best weather is found at the end of the year, in December and January—the skies are clear, and the air is crisp. The highest temperature recorded was 39.4 °C in March 1975. The lowest was 14 °C recorded on 26 December 1975.

People

The centuries of trade across the Indian Ocean gave Kozhikode a cosmopolitan population. Muslims constitute the majority of the population, and next come theHindu and the Christian communities respectively. The Muslims of Kozhikode District are known as Mappilas. A great majority of them are Sunnis following the Shafi School of thought. People in cheruvadi are very lovable.

Places of interest

The temples and mosques of this village contain sculptures and inscriptions which are of considerable interest to students of art. Cheruvadi town itself has many mosques, the most notable of which are the cheruvadi Puthiyoth juma masjid under sunni(shafi) and the other one is salafi masjid situated in cheruvadi bazar.

There is a shady riverside at Kadavu. Nadukkal, Alunghal and Chullikkaparamba are other popular gathering spots.

Arts and sports

Football playing and viewing is the weakness of people of cheruvadi. Here is a beautiful mini stadium constructed by the co-operation of natives of village and kodiyathur panchayath. Other most interested and playing game is Shuttle with cock. there are so many grounds for this purpose. National Athlet C.S Sindhya mol and the most famous Singer in Mappila songs C.V.A Kutty are the natives of cheruvadi.

Personalities

Kuttiali Master - First Head Master of Gov.U.P School Cheruvadi, Abdu Cheruvadi (late) was a writer in Travel stories and history. Vagan Tragedy is one of them.Thalavannu Muhammed Musliyar (late) was the Qazhi of Cheruvadi mahallu and now Dr. M Abdul Azeez Faizy.
