Kevin Saff is me. Currently I don't make huge contributions to Wikipedia because I don't have the energy to fight against the people who love to delete and tear down any/all significant changes. If I have to spend that much time doing something I'd rather do it for something that's going to last. I do make minor changes when they seem appropriate, but I am still learning to only make changes I don't care about. I suspect this is one reason Wikipedia articles are just pages to look things up in, rather than pages to actually read.
Kevin Saff is me. The current great project of my life is canoeing from Calgary to New Orleans, and blogging this at Kevin's Little Floating Adventure.

History
I was born and raised in St. Peters, Missouri, and attended Fort Zumwalt South High School. Then I studied Mechanical Engineering at UIUC.

After that I was employed as a mechanical engineer at Boeing in St. Louis. In spite of this, my work consisted of hacking in C++. During compiles, I used to surf random pages, hoping to kill red links, and finding and uploading relevant images to the encyclopedia.

Then I went to Calgary to study Combinatorial game theory with Richard K. Guy. This reduced the amount of time I spent hacking Wikipedia. And then, I dropped out of my PhD program to canoe from Calgary to New Orleans, which is what I am currently doing.

Well, sort of, at least.

I'm actually stuck in Minneapolis with a frozen river and a broken boat. I'll get going again when the Mississippi River thaws and I fix the canoe. In the meantime... sigh... I have been wasting some time here. Hopefully I will have better things to do again, soon.

Subpages

Helpful wikipedia pages that I can never relocate I've begun to store at /Bookmarks.

I have created some userboxes at /Userboxes.

Some diagrams I was working on for Mancala can be viewed at /Mancala.

I thought might try to work out some ideas about games taxoboxes at /Games, but I probably didn't.

My style is at /monobook.css and /monobook.js, of course.

Contributions

I have added some historical information on my current residence and some disorganized rambling about my current biking trail.

I have made substantial contributions to a few articles on mancala games.

Licensing

Multi-licensed into the public domain
I agree to multi-license my eligible text contributions, unless otherwise stated, under Wikipedia's copyright terms and into the public domain. Please be aware that other contributors might not do the same, so if you want to use my contributions in the public domain, please check the multi-licensing guide.

Beware of first- hand ideas! First-hand ideas do not really exist. They are but the physical impressions produced by live and fear, and on this gross foundation who could erect a philosophy? Let your ideas be second-hand, and if possible tenth-hand, for then they will be far removed from that disturbing element - direct observation. Do not learn anything about this subject of mine - the French Revolution. Learn instead what I think that Enicharmon thought Urizen thought Gutch thought Ho-Yung thought Chi-Bo-Sing thought Lafcadio Hearn thought Carlyle thought Mirabeau said about the French Revolution. Through the medium of these ten great minds, the blood that was shed at Paris and the windows that were broken at Versailles will be clarified to an idea which you may employ most profitably in your daily lives. But be sure that the intermediates are many and varied, for in history one authority exists to counteract another. Urizen must counteract the scepticism of Ho-Yung and Enicharmon, I must myself counteract the impetuosity of Gutch. You who listen to me are in a better position to judge about the French Revolution than I am. Your descendants will be even in a better position than you, for they will learn what you think I think, and yet another intermediate will be added to the chain. And in time there will come a generation that had got beyond facts, beyond impressions, a generation absolutely colourless, a generation

seraphically free
From taint of personality,

which will see the French Revolution not as it happened, nor as they would like it to have happened, but as it would have happened, had it taken place in the days of the Machine.
