John Street is a short street in downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It runs from Stephanie Street and Grange Park in the north to the Metro Toronto Convention Centre on Front Street in the south. John, and other streets in the area, were named after John Graves Simcoe, the founder of York (today Toronto) and the first Lieutenant Governor of Upper Canada. When what had been Simcoe Street became a part of Richmond Street, what had been Graves Street was then renamed Simcoe Street, today a north-south street east of John.[1]
Prominent buildings on John Street include:
- 299 Queen Street West (formerly the CHUM-City Building)
- RioCan Hall (formerly called Festival Hall), on Richmond Street
- Metro Hall, between King Street and Wellington Street
- Canadian Broadcasting Centre, on Front Street
