Josef Schultz was a German soldier stationed in the Balkans, Serbia during World War II. During an operation at the hill Gradiste near the village of Visevica, his unit captured a group of partisans that were held for some time. Officers ordered the unarmed partisans up against a wall and ordered his unit to execute them. Josef refused the order, threw down his helmet and gun, tore off the insignia from his uniform and joined the partisans. He turned to face his unit and held the hands of the people next to him as they were all shot and killed.
