West Monroe High School is a high school in West Monroe, Louisiana, United States. It is administered by the Ouachita Parish School Board. It is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The sports team's mascot is the Rebel.[1]
Extracurricular activities
Band
The band is highly accomplished and has received consecutive Superior ratings at Marching and Concert festivals since 1966. Mr. Robbie Freeman conducts the Rebel Band consisting of 230 students.[2]
Choir
The Rebel Choir at West Monroe is a nationally accredited choral group that has received superior ratings since the group was started. Mr. Greg Oden conducts the Rebel choir of over 100 students as well as a beginning boys choir and a beginning girls choir for a grand total of around 300 students. The group has taken multiple trips including singing for the Pope and also this past summer on their European Tour by going to Switzerland, France, and England.
Football
Since Don Shows arrival at West Monroe, he has led the Rebels to sixteen district, seven ('93, '96, '97, '98, '00, '05, and '09) state championships. They also have two national championships, the first one in 1998 and the latter one in 2000. The Rebels also secured six state runner-up designations. Before Shows took over the Rebels, the team had mostly losing seasons for many previous years.[3][4] The Rebels have ranked nationally for more than 10 years and have won district titles 18 years in a row. Their most recent state championship was in 2009 when they defeated Archbishop Rummel (New Orleans) by a score of 30-0.
