The 'Institut Supérieur du Commerce' or 'ISC Paris School of Management' is a private French business school located in Paris and is one of the French Grandes Ecoles. Its programmes consist of a core degree, a national Master in management, and an MBA programme offering 16 different specializations, available both in part time and full time courses. These degrees are accredited by the French Ministry of Education.

History

The ISC Paris opened its doors in autumn 1962 at 6 avenue Léon Heuzey, in the 16th arrondissement of Paris. Founded by Paul Icard, director of the Institute of Industrial Sale Psychology, the institution aims to train "business executives adapted to the methods of modern business." The ISC Paris was a non-profit association (law 1901) with a managing board. Accessible directly after the baccalaureate, the duration of study was two years at the time. The first promotion (promo 64) is composed of thirty-eight students, only men. The student life is steered by the Board of Students of the ISC Paris that was founded in early 1963.

On May 19, 1969, ISC Paris was recognized by the State in a ministerial decree. Simultaneously, it moved to new premises at 13 rue Jacques Bingen in the 17th arrondissement. The school now hosted a hundred students. In 1971, the period of study changed from two to three years. Also, admission was no longer opened to those who had only passed the baccalaureate, but required a year of preparation and was then made available to women.

Extracurricular activities are a core part of the professional degrees. In 1969, the Board of Students was separated from the school management and incorporated as a non-profit association. In 1970 the "Junior Enterprise" of the ISC Paris is funded.

In 1975, ISC Paris moved to 22 Boulevard du Fort de Vaux, its current address, covering an area of 2200 square meters offering among others a language laboratory, rooms for group work, conference rooms and a computer center. The entry examination is then opened to parallel admissions having a post-baccalaureate 2 to 4 years university degree.

In 1976 the number of candidates approached a thousand. The ISC Paris decided to open examination centers in provinces with the support of local chambers of commerce or schools.

On May 21, 1980, a decree of the Ministry of Education announced that the degree of the ISC Paris was then covered and guaranteed by the State.[1] In 1981 a department for continuous professional education is created that offers training solutions to the corporate world. It was followed by the creation of ISC Master cycles for holders of a post-baccalaureate 4 to 5 years degree. The Institut Superieur du Commerce became the ISC Group. In 1983, the entry examination in 1st year was opened to parallel admissions to increase the number of applicants. In October 1983, ISC Paris inaugurated new premises close to the Boulevard du Fort de Vaux. The school area then reached more 3000 square meters but will be further on expanded.

With 1178 candidates in 1982, 2281 in 1984, and 3875 in 1992, the number of candidates rocked up thanks to the actions of the School Promotion Committee organizing conferences in preparatory classes across France. In 1992, ISC Paris created a series of examination tests with the ESLSCA. Whilst the written tests were identical, the oral exams were different for each school. This system lasted until 1999, the date of entry of the ISC Paris in the Banque Commune d'épreuves (Examination test base for most Business Schools). Meanwhile, in 1996, a ministerial reform increased the duration of preparatory classes from one to two years. 2 121 candidates applied in 2003, 2958 [2] applicants from HEC preparatory classes and about 2500 via the parallel admission process in 2010.

In 2006, ISC Paris modernized its graphic charter and became the ISC Paris School of Management. In March 2007, the ISC Paris was authorized to endow Master's degree in line with the LMD European wide Bologna process[3] (in line with the Bologna reform) to its students by the Helfer Committee and entered the Conference of Grandes Ecoles. In 2009, a third building is inaugurated, the ISC 3 for the sole MBA students. The whole school area now tops 13 600 square meters.

On September 8, 2010, Claude Riahi, Chief Executive Officer is replaced by Andrès Atenza, but retains his functions as President of the Board.[4]
