The Book Depository is a UK-based online book seller. The company is notable for its worldwide free shipping* to over 90 countries.

History

The company was founded in 2004 by Andrew Crawford and current COO Stuart Felton; its motto is to make "All Books Available to All".

The company's expected turnover in 2010–2011 is expected to be £120m, up from £70m in 2010. [1]

Other Activities

The Book Depository is involved in several other book related activities, including:

  • a self-publishing project entitled Espressio, which allows consumers to print their own books.
  • BibDib, an Open Source database of public domain works. [2]

  • The Book Depository is partnered with the Egyptian company ElKotob.com [3]

Awards

In 2006, the business was nominated as the Direct to Consumer Bookselling Company of the Year and was awarded The Nielsen BookNet Supply Chain Initiative of the Year at The Bookseller Retail Awards.[citation needed]

In 2007, it was a finalist for the Retail/Leisure business of the Year Fast Growth Business Award[4] and won two UK Startup Awards, Online Business of the Year and Retailer of the Year.[5]
