Former AO rated products

These titles were either given the AO rating during production or post-production or were threatened with the AO rating and were subsequently edited to receive an M rating.

  • Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PC, PlayStation 2, Xbox) - Originally received an M rating; however, the rating was changed to AO (with the "Nudity" descriptor added) several months following the Hot Coffee controversy. Afterward a newer version for Xbox and re-released with a patch nicknamed the "Cold Coffee" patch for the PC) was released on all three systems. These versions had the content removed and are now rated M.
  • Indigo Prophecy (PC, Playstation 2, Xbox) - As mentioned above a director's cut was released with an AO rating exclusively as a download on the PC.
  • Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude (PC, Playstation 2, Xbox) - A downloadable version of the game subtitled 'Uncut and Uncensored!' is available off the official website was rated AO.
  • Manhunt 2 (PlayStation 2, Wii, PSP)- A PC port has been officially rated AO, though.
  • Singles: Flirt Up Your Life (PC) - A downloadable version retaining its AO rating was released on the PC.
  • The Punisher (PC, PlayStation 2, Xbox). Using a system that modifies the console, or modding the console manually, as well as patches for the PC version, allows the game to be played uncut.
  • The Witcher (PC) - There is an official patch for the Enhanced Edition which allows for the game to be played uncut.
  • Thrill Kill (PlayStation) - Animated Blood and Gore, Animated Violence
  • Manhunt 2 (PlayStation 2) - Blood and gore, Intense Violence, Strong Language, Strong Sexual Content, Use of Drugs
  • NOTE: Although there never was a formal release, in its original beta state ESRB gave No More Heroes an AO rating, and was "as violent, if not moreso than Manhunt 2.
