The senior doctor says he'll do a blood test. Since a blood test rarely confirms mastocytosis, House suggests giving him five aspirin, which would trigger another anaphylactic shock and confirm the diagnosis. Adams is convinced, but the senior doctor has him kicked out of the clinic.

In the hallway, Adams approaches House about the missing Vicodin, saying she knows about exit taxes and asking him if he got enough. House says he needs twenty Vicodin. In the dining hall, House goes to give Mendelson the Vicodin, but instead throws it up into the air. This causes Mendelson's gang to attack House and the other inmates to scramble for the pills.

House is taken to the clinic for minor wounds. At the first opportunity he jumps up, crushes some aspirin in a cup of water and hands it to the patient. The guards rush in, grabbing House and taking away the cup. Adams then takes the cup and hands it to the patient while the senior doctor fires her, yelling that she'll be completely unemployable. Everyone waits for several seconds, but the patient does not go into shock. House is dragged away by the guards and put into solitary.

When House's meal is delivered in solitary, there is a note on the tray: "You were right".

"Twenty Vicodin"

Twenty Vicodin is the eighth season premiere episode of the American television medical drama series House and the 156th overall episode of the series.[3] It is scheduled to air on Fox Network in the United States on October 03, 2011. The episode introduces a new regular cast member to the series, Odette Yustman, who plays Dr. Jessica Adams.[4] In the episode, the storyline will pick up 12 months after the finale of the seventh season with Dr. House in prison.[5]

Plot

After being imprisoned for driving a car into Cuddy's wall, House is now up for parole and must go five days without being written up to be released. The other inmates impose an "exit tax". Rolo steals House's stash of packaged food, while Stomper demands House's radio and headphones. House plants the radio in Rolo's cell and tells Stomper that the radio was stolen, starting a prison fight. During the commotion, House takes back the food and the radio.

Mendelson, the leader of a neo-Nazi prison gang, demands twenty Vicodin, which is all of the Vicodin House is prescribed for five days -- including the Vicodin he's already taken. House asks what will happen if he goes into protective custody to avoid Mendelson's gang until he gets out. Mendelson reminds him that, unlike House, he has friends on the outside.

Another inmate visits the clinic while House is on janitorial duty. House diagnoses lupus, but the doctors refuse to check him for a body rash because lupus rashes usually appear on the face. House berates the doctors, commenting sarcastically that it's "good enough for prison work". This surprises Dr. Adams, the new prison doctor, but the senior doctor is unmoved. House goes to the patient's cell to check for rashes and finds one on his leg. He confronts Adams, telling her she'll pay attention to the case because it's the only one that doesn't bore her.

Lupus is ruled out when the patient develops severe arm pain. House and Adams continue to test and diagnose, and Adams asks if House is really going to quit medicine. House claims he is going to switch to physics and study dark matter instead. Eventually, the senior prison doctor catches House holding the patient file, and Adams tells House they need to stop working together.

To get the Vicodin for Mendelson, House starts a fire in the bathroom and heads out to the clinic. When the fire is discovered and Adams is distracted, he pockets a pill bottle and returns it partially emptied.

Back at the cells, the patient approaches House to talk about the diagnosis. House notices his lips are swollen and asks him about allergies. The patient replies that he only had meatloaf, potatoes, and coffee. The patient goes into anaphylactic shock. House yells for a guard and performs a tracheotomy.

The next morning, House dumps the extra Vicodin into a toilet and calls for a guard so that he can go into protective custody. While being escorted out, he sees another guard drinking hot coffee. He tells the guard he doesn't need protective custody after all. He goes to tell Adams and the senior doctor that the patient has mastocytosis, and that the heat from the patient's coffee triggered the anaphylactic shock.

Production

"Twenty Vicodin", the eighth season premiere of House, was written by Peter Blake.[6] It will debut actress Odette Yustman as Dr. Jessica Adams, a doctor working at the prison where Dr. House is incarcerated.[citation needed] On September 20 2011, an advanced screener version of the episode was leaked onto the Internet; although incomplete (several visual effects were missing).
