Blank Munny figurine.

A Munny doll (pronounced /ˈmʌni/[1]) is a toy from the American company Kidrobot.

Action Figure

A Munny doll is made out of vinyl and has movable joints. A Munny doll is a blank figure the owner can decorate using pens, pencils, markers, paint, and other supplies. While painting, or designing a Munny, or the like, has been a common in the underground now gaining a vast deal of attention, the initial idea was undertake by taggers, (illegal artists), to display their works. Hints could be given on a Munny doll in a public viewing that would link an artist to a particular piece of illegal work on the streets, using a unique style, color scheme, or an individual attitude. While a Munny comes with no real directions to paint it, creativity is a must. Oil based enamel works well, this is model car/plane paint. While high quality oil based enamel is hard to come by these days, oil based model paint is just a cheap version of old sign painters paint. True Shot brand works extremely well, if in the US, but is really hard to find. The first Munny doll was white, and has since been available in other colors such as black, pink, blue, and phosphorescent green. The figure is housed in a box which includes 1 random accessory that vary from a different series (1 through 4, 4 being the latest) such as a carrot or a hat.

Variations

The original Munny is white in color, stands 7 inches tall, and weighs about 1 pound. All series include the 7 inch Munny with the white Munny still being the featured doll in the series. Other variations of the doll are:

Mini Munny- Exactly like the original Munny, but only stands about 4 inches tall, originally released in February 2008. It was released in three different colors; Blue, White & Pink. The mini Munny comes packaged with one accessory, a "My Name Is" sticker, and a marker.

Mega Munny- Exactly like the original Munny, but it stands about 18 inches tall and weighs several pounds. Mega Munny is available in White, Teal, Pink, and Yellow. Although Mega Munny does not include any accessories, Mega Munny includes a large Practice sheet and a Coloring book.

Munny Zipper Pulls- Munny Zipper Pulls are basically the Mini Munny with a clip at the top of the action figure's head. Munny Zipper Pulls are also sold "Blind Assortment" and can vary from a Munny with a different design to a random object, such as a banana.

Mini Munny Mobile- Mini Munny Mobile is a car which includes 1 white Mini Munny. Like the doll, the car is made out of vinyl. The car can seat 1 Mini Munny, has rolling wheels, and a windshield.

Other Munny Items

A variety of other Munny related items have been produced by Kidrobot.

Munny Sterling Silver Necklace- A 925k sterling silver necklace shaped like Munny. The Munny charm stands 1 inch tall.

Munny Crayons and Markers- A set of Munny themed markers and crayons.

Munny Skate Deck- A skateboard deck featuring the phosphorescent Munny on the bottom of the deck.

Dunny

The Dunny character is similar to the Munny character. Dunnys are designed and released in 8" versions almost every month. Typically, two blind boxed series of 3" Dunny figures are released a year. Dunnys have distinctive, rabbit-like ears at the top of their heads, unlike Munny which has two humanoid ears, placed in the left and right positions, like a human would have. Dunnys are sold in Kidrobot stores found in New York, Paris, Florida, and more.

Cartoon Network Use

  • From 2008 to 2010, Cartoon Network showed bumpers featuring Noods, which, unlike the Munny, has a neck which gives it a likely "bowling pin" appearance. Each Nood can be blank, or can have a color. Most of the Noods take the form of different Cartoon Network characters. The Noods were designed by Capacity Studios in Los Angeles and Crew972 in Israel.
  • In Cartoon Network Latin America, a similar rebrand was developed, featuring characters called "Toonix", which have a cube shaped head and no ears. The bumpers often borrowed plots from Nood bumpers (i.e.; CN characters getting their colors drained out and into the logo).

Related products

  • Recently, Rose Art, part of MEGA Brands America, Inc., has manufactured Color Blanks, which is like Munny, but is cheaper. There are many variations, including ones with cube-shaped heads, ones with hairdos, and "In Motion" packs.

Munny in the news

  • A shot of a Mega Munny was shown in a scene from the movie, Splice.
  • A Munny sticker is on the dashboard of Christine Brown's car in the movie Drag Me to Hell
  • In SHINee's music video for "Hello" Lee Taemin is drawing on a Munny doll. In the background the shelves are filled with Munny dolls.
