Elysium is an upcoming 2013 American science fiction film written and directed by Neill Blomkamp. The film stars Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, and Wagner Moura. Elysium is scheduled to be released on March 1, 2013.
Premise
Elysium is set on another planet in the far future. The film will combine sociopolitical ideas and action.[1]

Elysium is written and directed by Neill Blomkamp, who previously directed District 9. In January of 2011, the independent studio Media Rights Capital met with major studios to present Elysium, and Blomkamp shared art designs of his proposed science fiction film. Sony Pictures acquired the project by making a more attractive offer than the other studios.[2] With an estimated production budget of $40 million,[3] filming began in July of 2011.[4]
Release
Elysium is scheduled to be released on March 1, 2013. When the film was first announced, Sony Pictures intended to release it in late 2012.[2] It later set an official release date for March 8, 2013,[5] before moving one week earlier.[6]
