The school

My Little Red House Bilingual School is a bilingual (English/Spanish)Pre-K to 8th grade school located in Ocotepeque, Honduras. It provides students with a unique opportunity to receive a bilingual education at a cost local families can afford. Spanish classes are taught by local teachers from Ocotepeque, while English classes are taught by volunteer teachers. The school's English volunteers come from all over the world and provide students with instruction in reading, writing, phonics, spelling, art, and music. The school was founded in 1999. There are currently approximately 100 students enrolled at the school. Many students would not be able to pay the high price of attending a typical private bilingual school, so tuition at My Little Red House is low cost and many students have scholarships that enable them to attend. The current yearly cost is approximately $80. The school also welcomes public or private sponsorships of students.

Students

The students at the school come from the town of Nueva Ocotepeque, where the school is located, as well as surrounding towns. The school has pre-school, kindergarten, and 1st grade through 8th grade.

Teachers

The faculty of My Little Red Bilingual House is primarily composed of Spanish teachers from Ocotepeque and surrounding areas and international English teachers as well as local English teachers. Spanish teachers teach a variety of subjects including Spanish, Art, Music, Physical Education, Natural Science, Mathematics, and Computer Applications. Classes taught by English teachers include Reading, Spelling, Phonics, and Grammar.
