The Expeditionary Service Award is an award of the United States Department of State. It is presented to employees in the Department who serve in designated field locations.[1] Currently, the following locations have been designated expeditionary by the Director General of the Foreign Service:
- Iraq
- Afghanistan
The award consists of a certificate signed by the Secretary and an engraved medal. There is no cash award associated with recognition.
Nominating and Approval Procedures
There is no nomination procedure. The Expeditionary Service Award is automatically awarded to all Department of State employees, both Civil and Foreign Service, who serve in designated field locations. The medal will be awarded retroactively for employees who served in designated areas once their service records are verified.
Military Use
This award is not issued to active-duty military.
