Paul Krugman
Perhaps you failed to notice: your revert deleted references used in citations in the main text. I added those citations along with that main-text material in order to (slowly but surely) bring this BLP into conformance with the economist infobox guideline, while also retaining useful (if still underdocumented) information about influences on his work in economics.

Reply on the Talk page for the article, please, as BLP/3RR requires. I won't be looking here. Yakushima (talk) 02:31, 20 December 2011 (UTC)

:As Kingsley Amis, I think it was, wrote in one of his novels: Funny how it's got ruder to say "please" than not. As what requires? Are you posting on my talkpage and ordering me to reply somewhere else purely to be unpleasant, or is there some real reason? You won't be looking for a reply here.. ? Suit yourself by all means. Anyway: no, I wasn't aware I deleted references in the main text. I'm sorry, that was a mistake. Mind you, IMHO such mistakes are only one of the unwanted likely consequences of a stupid referencing system. (I know it's widely used, but for my money it's massively inconvenient, and militates against both newbs and technically challenged oldtimers such as myself ever editing articles with inline cites.) Could you please return the lost references to the main text yourself? Not being comfortable with that particular system, I don't think I'd do it very well. Sorry to trouble you. If that's a problem, maybe Page Stalker User:Famously Sharp could help. Famously, may I trouble you? Bishonen &#124; talk 22:45, 20 December 2011 (UTC).
:: No trouble, Chère. It's actually a perfect reason for using list defined references where the actual reference lives in the References section and the inline cites are just a named ref. It keeps all of the snot (as Jack would call it) out of the main text and doesn't clog up infoboxes.
:: As it happens, I had a look at Paul Krugman this morning, only to find that Yworo had already reverted the overstuffing of the box and cleaned up the references. He's been back a couple of times since, and seems to know what he's doing, so I can do little more than keep a weather eye on the page. I had intended dropping Yakushima a note explaining that edit warring is still sanctionable even short of 3RR, and that there's no entitlement to revert multiple times, <del>even</del> <ins>especially</ins> on the spurious grounds that an editor believes that it's a BLP violation not to mention every single person who influenced the subject (like: oops we forgot to include his Mum). But when I looked, I saw that he'd been blocked by MastCell a few days ago for exactly that same offence. He's skating on very thin ice now, as he clearly hasn't learned from a 24-hour block. Perhaps his next block will convince him. --Famously Sharp (talk) 01:44, 21 December 2011 (UTC)
:::Yworo doesn't know what he's doing. He reverted edits I made to a section quoting comments from Prescott and Barro, leaving the text less accurate.
:::"an editor believes that it's a BLP violation not to mention every single person who influenced the subject (like: oops we forgot to include his Mum)." I don't believe that. If I included every economist Krugman ever mentioned (or whose results he used), the infobox influences list would be several times longer than the longest I ever left it. I have no intention of doing that. Quite the contrary. If, for example, someone actually turned up wording saying that "influences" must only list what Bishonen calls "utterly central", where that is clearly taken to mean "motivated the bulk of the work that made him notable", I'd say Hyman Minsky should be deleted from the list, and possibly a couple of others. And I've even just recently proposed removing "influences" from the infobox entirely, but only after WP:PRESERVE has been properly applied, only after the names (added mostly by others, by the way) have been worked into the text with due weight. For now, I'll just AGF about your assumption that I'm promiscuously adding everybody up to and including "his Mum". If, however, after reading this, you persist in that kind of characterization of my behavior, I will take action to point out your misbehavior to others, for appropriate action. Yakushima (talk) 05:54, 22 December 2011 (UTC)
:::: Yes, thank you for your considered opinion on other editors. I hope you'll forgive me for forming my own opinion, which is that you have no clue about Yworo knowing what he's doing, or that your mischaracterisation of Bishonen's reasonable actions as "misbehaviour" is rubbish. Before you continue threatening Bishonen with "appropriate action", you ought to read WP:BOOMERANG, because – believe me – we've seen plenty of tendentious editors, obsessed with a tiny detail, who think they have to be right and everybody else must be wrong. They don't last long. --Famously Sharp (talk) 12:16, 22 December 2011 (UTC)
:::::Famously, I know the usual thing would be for Yakushima to be threatening me, if anybody, here on my talkpage. But on close inspection, it seems he's talking to you, and about your misbehaviour. :-) Bishonen &#124; talk 12:49, 22 December 2011 (UTC).

Broadening of Project
Dear B, Just responding to your query on my Giacomo request:

Problem 2: sorry, I'm not sure I'm following you. You want the WikiProject to have a more inclusive name? That's something you must discuss on the project itself. The project talkpage is indeed the place to propose an expansion of the project and a new name for it. If you get general agreement to your proposal, any experienced user there can "move" it to a new name — doesn't have to be an admin.
:No, not for the Project to have a more inclusive name. Sorry for my misleading wording ("top of the page" - doh!). I mean the ABOUT box should include the word animals, so that the SCOPE of the Project is broadened. Animals can be abandoned and fostered too. I have taken this up on the Project Talk Page. By the way, Bishonen, are you an Admin? I have a huge ethical problem that I will be bringing to you in the New Year. Have a good one.FClef (talk) 23:48, 27 December 2011 (UTC)
::OK, cool. Right, additions to the "about" box need consensus too, so discussing on talk is the proper action. I see you got your abandoned "cat" adopted very nicely by a couple of parents — most appropriate! :-) Yes, I'm an admin, pretty experienced but better not ask me about anything too technical. You're very welcome to bring me something wiki-ethical, but I should point out that any experienced user that you have confidence in can advise you on such matters. People like Giacomo for example. Admins only have a few extra technical tools; there's no special admin button for ethics! Bishonen &#124; talk 01:22, 28 December 2011 (UTC).
:::I'm guessing FClef was asking about broadening Wikipedia:WikiProject Adoption, fostering, orphan care and displacement to include animals, after he'd added an animal category to :Category:Adoption - since removed. Makes as much sense as adding veterinary clinics to List of hospitals in Australia on the grounds that they both treat ailments, just some patients are human and some are animal. <span style="font-family:Verdana, sans-serif">Bastun</span>Ėġáḍβáś₮ŭŃ! 19:52, 28 December 2011 (UTC)
::::Yes, well, I didn't take any position on the appropriateness of parenting the animal abandonment cat to the adoption cat when I talked with FClef. Perhaps I should have, and saved him the disappointment of having his proposed "adoption" rejected, since I did suspect it would get removed. But I didn't want to overwhelm an inexperienced user with information on several levels. S/he asked about a technical process and one of the prospective parents was uncontroversial, so s/he did need to learn about the parenting process — also for future use, of course. I figured, perhaps wrongly, that it was better that the project dealt with the concern about relevance. Sorry that was so annoying for you. I have to say, though, that I'm even sorrier to see you severely biting an obviously well-meaning user. "Insulting", was it? Give me a break. If I had known FClef would get attacked on the project talkpage for their suggestion, I certainly would have proceeded differently. Bishonen &#124; talk 21:26, 28 December 2011 (UTC).
:::::Yes, I did find it insulting. I know many adopted people, adoptive parents, and natural parents, and although many of them are animal lovers and one in particular has a habit of taking in strays from animal shelters, none of them, including her, would equate what she does with the adoption or fostering of a child. <span style="font-family:Verdana, sans-serif">Bastun</span>Ėġáḍβáś₮ŭŃ! 00:24, 29 December 2011 (UTC)
::::::FClef didn't equate them either, that I can see, so I still don't see how "insulting" is by any stretch le mot juste. Surely you don't suppose it was his intention to offend? Anyway, since it fact it did offend you, why revert FClef's removal of it? Bishonen &#124; talk 00:43, 29 December 2011 (UTC).
:::::: What would have been so difficult, Bastun, about showing a little grace, and explaining that your views were different from FClef's? There was no need whatsoever to be that unpleasant with another editor, who was so plainly full of good intentions, simply because their use of the term "adoption" did not coincide with yours. --RexxS (talk) 01:28, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

:::::::Thank you, Bishon and RexxS. Having written a further comment on the Project Talk Page, I have on reflection deleted the topic. Bastun has behaved entirely inappropriately. There are ways of saying "no". And, for the record, two of my first cousins are adopted. You are right: I was never equating human with animal adoption - I suggested a possible broadening of the topic. Pointing out the similarities in experience between animals and humans was never designed to equate them in scale. Bastun ignores this.
:::::::I resent the public implication that I am inhumane and some kind of monster. I am not happy with having been gratuitously attacked with such a high-handed response. My request was never "insulting" - what, using greetings and polite inquiries? But the reply patently was designed to crush and hurt. I am not happy for such a nasty attack to remain on Wikipedia's pages.
:::::::I understand Bastun's sensitivities but not the belittling tone or the unprovoked ungraciousness, nor the apparent malice shown in reverting my edit when I have been sufficiently crushed. I will view any further restoration of the edit as vinctiveness. But then Wikipedia is built on such things. I was briefly bullied in primary school, and recall the experience.
:::::::In the last couple of years, in common with many others, I have been conquering depression after watching my mum die. Resuming writing on Wikipedia has been part of my recovery process and I am sorry to have been gratuitously damaged during it. == Archiving a Talk page ==

Last question of the year - I am doing Archive 2 by creating a new page, moving the current version to it (by cut-and-paste), and linking to the current version of my talk page. Have reviewed the procedure but there are two questions:
* title of new page: User_talk:FClef/Archive 2 (26 September 2007 – 30 December 2011) - is the "Underscore mark" between the words "User" and "talk" required? I used it on Archive 1, but it doesn't seem to be called for here. It is, I imagine, OK to include the date range in parenthesis in the title, as I did on Archive 1, and also when linking it to my Current talk page.
* the "talk archive" Template - in my old Archive 1, that was written as one word only, i.e., "talkarchive". However in point 6 here it is rendered as two words. Which one? Or does it make no difference?

Thanks as always for advice.FClef (talk) 11:57, 31 December 2011 (UTC)

:No, none of it makes any difference. The underscore mark probably just got accidentally imported from an URL (where it's vital). It's never needed in wiki page names, but it also never breaks anything there. Altogether you have lots of freedom to call your archives what you like, as long as they're subpages in your space. User talk:FClef/oldstuff would be perfectly cromulent.. though including date ranges certainly makes it easier to find, er, old stuff. :-) Bishonen &#124; talk 12:23, 31 December 2011 (UTC).
