A Note About Advertising and Conflicts of Interest

If I reverted your link addition or removed your links from an article, please read this:

Due to the rising profile of Wikipedia and the amount of extra traffic it can bring a site, there is a great temptation to use Wikipedia to advertise or promote sites. This includes both commercial and non-commercial sites. You should avoid linking to a website that you own, maintain or represent, even if the guidelines otherwise imply that it should be linked. If the link is to a relevant and informative site that should otherwise be included, please consider mentioning it on the talk page and let neutral and independent Wikipedia editors decide whether to add it. This is in line with the conflict of interest guidelines.

If you have additional information to add to the article, why not simply add it rather than having an external link?

Hi Versageek. I was wondering about issues re your good self:

Communicating with IPs: I note that you do your fair share of warnings in general. However, there are many occasions where it seems you revert an edit, but don't give a reason in the wp:ES - and frequently the IP's Talk page remains empty - no welcome or hints. Mind if I ask why you don't talk to them?
This talk page is getting long, wouldn't you say?

I like to think of it is "first one if free" - If an IP just adds one inappropriate link to a single article or does simple vandalism to a single article, there isn't much point in issuing a warning - since it's unlikely the person behind the edit will see it.. and it may confuse a future editor on the same IP. If the IPs are editing regularly or make similar non-constructive edits to multiple articles I do usually issue a warning. --Versa geek 15:58, 23 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The external link (Commission Breakthrough spamming)

Some acceptable links include those that contain further research that is accurate and on-topic, information that could not be added to the article for reasons such as copyright or amount of detail, or other meaningful, relevant content that is not suitable for inclusion in an article for reasons unrelated to its accuracy. that is from the external link page itself and i feel that the link that i added has this type of information on it. I'm trying to update my company's page on YourSports for our pending launch and big article that's about to come out in the PandoDaily.com. After editing, it got changed back. I don't know how to fix this..or what I did / went wrong. Can you offer me any information?

Live Online Chat

Hi, Sorry for leaving the link 18. liveonlinechat.net.

The article in question already had a link to chat.org which is not a moderated chat site. Live Online Chat is a fully moderated chat site and after reading some of the articles on Wikipedia about the dangers of chat rooms, I want to try and get the message across that not all chat rooms are dangerous! I have a team of over 50 admins and moderators that work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, making Live Online Chat probably one of the safest chat sites on the net. We have many rules that help keep out internet predators and potentially dangerous people. I think we deserve something within Wikipedia to mention our site, what we do and why not all chat rooms are dangerous. My team work very hard. When we find a potentially bad person, such as a pedophile, they are banned and IP reported to their ISP. We do our best to keep the internet clean and safe and above all, give decent good people a place to talk online, any age, in safe moderated chat rooms, monitored 24/7.

I would write an article myself about my site, but can´t see how I could do it without it sounding self-promoting! I am also not the greatest writer, my grammar is terrible! I wouldn´t want to put my crap writing on Wikipedia!!

If you can help me with an article about Live Online Chat and the safety of our Free Chat Rooms, where I can maybe have this written, I would be greatly happy. I think people like me and my admin team, that work for free, should get a little bit of recognisation for the hard work we do in keeping chat rooms safe.

Thank you and once again, sorry for adding the link to what I thought was external references. It wont happen again, but all I ask is for some help with publicity for LiveOnlineChat.net, pop by and see how safe it actually is to chat online in free chat rooms.

I've seen that you keep http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sports_betting not beeing spammed. I would like to add an external link to that section, but of course I do not want to be considered a spammy one, that is why I was asking you here before I add it.

It is regarding Odds Archive (http://www.oddsarchive.com). Please take 1 minute to surf the site and see that is quite unique with all past, present and near future sports odds for moneyline, total and spread. No advertising in the site and no affiliation system in it.
