The original intent of Occupy Thanet, as with many of the other "Occupy" movements, was to denounce the role that large corporations had in promulgating the financial crisis. The protesters in Thanet, as in other movements throughout the world, have described themselves as the "99 percent," a reflection of their belief that the financial system rewards the richest 1 percent at the expense of everyone else.

This movement is about economic security. We demand effective reforms to prevent banks and financial institutions from causing future economic crises. This movement is about corporate responsibility. We demand strict repercussions for corporations and institutions who cause serious financial damage to our country and its taxpayers. This movement is about financial fairness. We demand tax reforms to ensure that corporations and the wealthy pay their fair share in taxes.

Occupy Thanet is part of the Occupy movement Cite error: The <ref> tag has too many names (see the help page). Cite error: The <ref> tag has too many names (see the help page). which are against economic and social inequality, they are also focused on the local issues, these include the closure of Dreamland, and the shops in the Town. This protesting group is taking place at the Turner Contemporary Gallery in Margate. They first started protested on the 27 January 2012, can be considered a serious group as they have been sleeping throughout this time even when their was a layer of snow on the ground.


They have recently been getting a quite a bit of media attention, these include Occupy Thanet on facebook[1] on this page they have over 500 members and is growing. They have just started using Occupy Thanet on Twitter [2] and that has just started becoming quite busy. They have just produced a website called Occupy Thanet Cite error: The <ref> tag has too many names (see the help page). it contains a lot of photo's about what they are about.
