Les Friction is an independent music group that spawned from Helmut Vonlichten, who had previously collaborated with his brother Franz Vonlichten in their group, E.S. Posthumus which produced cinematic style music. On July 22, 2010, Franz's death in May 2010 was officially announced.[1] After giving notice of his brother's death, Helmut stated that while there still may be one or two unreleased songs (One of them being their single "Christmas Eve" released in November 2010), the group would no longer be active.[2] In November 2011, it was officially announced that Helmut Vonlichten has formed a new band called Les Friction,[3] and released a preview of his new work with the track, "Torture".[4] Two more track previews have been released on the band's official website: "Louder than Words"[5] and "Here Comes the Reign"[6]. Les Friction is a collaboration between Helmut Vonlichten, Nihl Finch, and the singer named "Paint".[7] Their debut album, self-titled Les Friction, was released on January 24, 2012.

Les Friction is the title of their debut album.[8] The album's first single "Torture" was released as a digital download on November 26, 2011, and the second single "Louder than Words" was released on December 27, 2011. Both singles are available for download on the band's official website.[9] The third and final single "Here Comes the Reign" was released on January 21, 2012, prior to the album's release date of January 24, 2012.[10] Nic Harcourt debuted the album on his music program on KCSN, and on New Year's Eve declared the track "Torture" as his favorite song of 2011. The album was also named the Best Album of January 2012 by the Grande Rock E-Zine.[11]

The following is a synopsis of the story behind their debut album from their official website: [12]

"The year is 2048 AD. Humans are now able to leave their earthly home and travel to other dimensions. While traveling, a shell of their body remains on earth and functions at a reduced capacity.

For most people, life is more interesting and entertaining in these alternate dimensions; however, having neglected their loved ones at home, society on earth begins to deteriorate. Anarchy ensues and the travelers begin to receive millions of S.O.S.’s from their families on earth. Now, they must fight and struggle their way back home to save earth from certain destruction. Our story begins…………"
