When we speak of Sicilian Americans, we still consider them Italian Americans. There is no reason for their to be a differing standard regarding the Catalan identity within the larger Spanish identity.

Because all these pages of "Mexican American", "Italian American", and all this stuff, are US Census Bureau labels, and if the US Census Bureau accepts the Catalan label, and accepts the Catalan language as one of the languages spoken in the United States, then why not create a page to collect this option of the census? Additionally the anonimous forgot that catalan people could have Spanish or French official nationallity (I mean internationally recognized nationallity) . And we could consider a broader cultural point of view, that probably would include Andorran people... User:Tonipares

The reasons are quite simple. Catalan Americans from Andorra, Northern Catalonia (France) or Alghero (Italy) don't fit within a 'Spanish identity'. What does 'Spanish identity' mean, anyway? Many Catalans of Spanish nationality/descent are Catalans by ethnicity, regardless of the fact that they can speak Spanish and/or English too, so from the point of view of ethno-linguistic statistics, a separate Catalonian category is perfectly acceptable. --Purplefire (talk) 17:32, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I think you are allowed to tick two of them. Catalan nationalists probably tick the code 204, but other catalans may tick the codes 200 and 204. The code 204 is not in the group of French ancestry but in the Spaniard ancestry. --79.155.113.50 (talk) 12:57, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
