Proferrin is an oral iron supplement made from heme iron polypeptide used to treat iron deficiency anemia. Compared to other iron supplements such as ferrous fumarate, ferrous sulphate and ferrous gluconate, Proferrin has shown to not cause high gastrointestinal side effects associated with oral iron supplements.[1] Proferrin absorption is not hindered when taken with a meal.[2]

Proferrin is derived from an animal source and may not be acceptable to vegans or observant Jews and Muslims.
